What do you make of the noise in the video? And
I know the borescope photos aren't good quality, but something looks strange on that bottom lip of the piston in cylinder 4.

Yes, When the timing belt broke the valves in cyl #3 touched the piston inappropriately.
Sorry but that motor is done 330K I would not put money into it.

Yea that's what I told this kid who owns it. He's neglected it pretty bad anyway, so I told him any major motorwork would not be a financially wise investment

Is that even worth our time at this point? That would just tell us where the compression loss is coming from, and any possible sources of compression loss really aren't worth addressing on a motor with this many miles, that's housed inside of a car with a myriad of other issues right?

A shame. One of Toyota's best engines. It takes quite a bit of neglectation to ruin them.

Would A valve job or new head(s) remedy this?

Possibly but putting new heads on a 300k mi engine isn't a good idea, typically they will start burning a shit ton of oil if you seal up the top end and don't do anything with the bottom end.

In theory yes. But you never really know what you're going to find once you crack into a motor with this many miles.

And new heads, head gaskets, head studs, valve cover gaskets, and other ancillary items, and you're at least another $1500-2000 in, in parts costs alone. On a rig that has transmission issues and is beat up from the feet up, just not a good use of funds

Bad... multiple transmission codes with hard shifts, blown out bushings everywhere, possible wheel bearing going out on the rear, a plethora of vacuum leaks, oil and transmission fluid leaks from every orifice, and a radiator that is chalk full of rust.

But it's got KC Offroad lights, so there is that

Edit: forgot to add a locked up AC compressor and clogged heater core

Where in the US is this truck located?

I have resurrected a few 1st gen / 4Runners in the past, yeah putting $7k - $10k in a 25 year old platform seems crazy. Those are old numbers, not sure what todays numbers would be, anyway, everyone of them is still on the road and when I see them at social events (family members) they ask me if I have another. Very, VERY tough to beat a vehicle that starts everytime. The husbands usually dont care if it is a beater or not as long as the windows and AC work... and I KNOW the dogs dont care either.

Prescott, Arizona. I know the kid is trying to move on from it and sell itnto someone who wants to scavenge from it or save it. It does have the MMTC (so both 4WD and AWD capabilities) with locking center diff, so that's a pretty nice feature

What does the interior have to do with the OP's question about timing belts?
