I think its valid to point out that this is oil sip not oil leak. There is no pressure there only oil splashing from nozzles. So if you are out of warranty and don't have money to fix this, simply ignore it. If you want you can check if bolts in the area are tighten to spec.
But this is no danger to the engine. :)

Well if this is no real issue to engine life/safety I'm fine with cleaning it and just watching it. I have not noticed any oil usage at all actually that I can notice. Have gone about 4k miles on the last two oil changes, and it still was fine at the end of the service interval. So as you guys suggest, maybe i will leave this on be. Ill try to get some better pictures, but iv never seen any oil on the floor, so cant be too bad.

Mine has been leaking for about a year now. I took it in out of warranty, and they wanted to charge me $1400.00 to repair it. . . . fuuuuuuck-ah-that. I can't notice a difference between oil changes, it's going to leak until it blows up.

1 qt. per 1000 miles was out of line. Im going to get this right! Can get it fixed For $850 if they dont find anything more then they already have, 30year pal is top dog in the back of a big ford dealership.I know who he puts on it they will work on it like its his moms truck. Think toyota and there dealer will have a good BM over this.

Well i got an email back today from SF Toyota. Said my service record with toyota, and the status of my truck was a good candidate for a good will service. But i need to bring in my truck for a $160 engine fluid leak inspection.. $160! Hmm. Its pretty obvious whats wrong I think.

    Thoughts?

160 for 1400 worth of work. I would do it and be happy. I would get the good will part in writing so they don't screw you over later.

That's why I say get it in writing that they will do the service for free when the test proves it needs to be done.

Im sure they wont do that. They are doing the test to make sure that the timing cover leak is the actual problem. When they confirm that, they will then contact Toyota USA, asking for a good will service for me. They will not guarantee it, and are requiring i do the inspection before i find out if the good will is going to happen.

I agree 100% my leak is so slight that I will just add oil as needed (nothing at this time) rather than take it to the dealer so they can open a huge can of worms. I would probably have to take it back for all the other issues that they would create while trying to fix it. After almost 3 months, the area that I have cleaned off is not seeping at all. Hopefully the leak does not get bad anytime soon.

I had what I believe is the same leak. Passenger side timing cover near the power steering pump . Mine was under warranty. It was repaired around 36,000 if i remember right. Then the tech put the small square cover with four bolts on backwards then it leaked so i had to go back behind the tech and fix that. Oh they left a radiator clamp off too. Lucky it didn't blow on the way home.

I had the same timing cover leak repaired under warranty around 36,000 i believe.

What thats insane. $800.00 isn't much better. If it calls for 7.7 and the labor rate at the shops in my area are $65.00 per hour thats $500.50 not including sealant. You both need to find another shop. Just call a reputable shop a check prices.

Yep, take it in. I had this problem but mine had oil splattered all under the truck especially on the tranny pan and the front cross member

My timing chain cover was leaking just behind the power steering at only 20,000 miles. The dealership had it for over a day. They actually did a good job fixing it. One year later no leaks. If you got a leak and your under warranty get it fixed. The list of things the dealership fixed... gaskets, parts, oil and coolant pretty much filled up the repair receipt.

Just find exactly where its leaking, and put a good heavy coat of oil/gas rated silicone on it.

you think that they would do a recall or something of that nature since everyone is having this problem.
