I always swapped out timing belts per the manufacturer's recommendation, but will take my chances with a timing chain.

Chains usually give some warning before failing.

Not sure how you can make this generalization off of a single instance?

Much prefer timing belts. 9/10 Toyotas I've owned had belts. I enjoyed replacing them on 3.3, 3.4 and 4.7 liter. I'd imagine replacing a timing chain on a GR Toyota engine would suck in comparison.

Sounds like install error or bad parts. Always buy Japanese parts.

Never heard of it. You must be the only one. I bet the belt was cut upon installation.

I had a timing belt on the 4.7 tundra which was replaced with the tensioner, and water pump every 100k miles yet the old belt still looked new...i'd bet it would even lasted another 100k. Never an issue with the belts the 292 k miles i owned it.
Wasn't the case with a timing chain on my gm v8 engines as they stretched, and cause all kinds of poor engine performance. Imo, i'd wouldn't be afraid to take a belt any day. Time will tell if a chain is really better on this 3.5 engine.

    OME and worth every penny.
Even compared to FWD timing belts...still correct.

Don't think you should compare a crappy gm product to a Toyota.

That's because they are older. It's essentially the same frame except 3rd gen has more holes in it.
