What is the recommended service interval for the timing chain on the 1grfe? If the chain is not replaced and ( God forbid!) the tensioner falls out or the chain breaks, will the same damage occur as did the older engines?

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
I don't believe there's actually any service required for them. I've run mine for 217,000 miles with no issues. I know the 22R engines had a tensioner problem, but not the newer engines.
