I just bought a 2002 tacoma with the 2.4 motor. Do these have the timing chain issues like the older 22r's?

    chris4x4,
You answered My Taco's (OP) question about timing chain issues above with a "yes".
Just wondering what the issue was. My 2.4l is coming up on 100k miles.
    Thanks,

    stock, for now
I know the 22re's had issues with the chain stretching, and the guides wearing out/breaking making the motor "clack". Not sure if they still did it untill the 2000's though.

That's exactly my question. My 94 P/U 22re had that happen and I replaced all that was needed. Was wondering if my 2002 will need the same maintenance.

Ok...My bad. I skimmed the measage, and thought he was asking if it HAD a timming chain. I havent heard of any issues with them at all. The 22-R motors mainly had issues with the guide. The newer engine hasnt had any troubles from what I have heard.
