Ok, so I keep hearing about the timing cover leak on 3rd gens. However I've heard it's a common problem for gr series engines in general. Where is the easiest place to see these leaks when they start to appear on the 3.5 v6?

Happens at the junction of the timing cover, block and head. That spot lands right behind the power steering pump. Easiest to lay under the truck and look up.

Oddly enough...my 2016 is all wet with oil right there where they always leak, but it also loses power steering fluid...lol, so we'll see what it looks like after I reseal the pump and clean everything up. I'm not one to get lucky, but I might. lol

Still all in my head… but I’m keeping the chrome bumper!
That’s a dangerous door to be knocking on…. Don’t look and it won’t be there. Just change your oil at every 5 or 7k and whisper sweet nothings to your rig every day… and again, don’t look.

Agreed it is better to not look, BUT if you want to the best way to see it is to rest your head a little on the back of the passenger front tire, and look straight up. You want to focus right behind and underneath the the power steering pump. Blowback will start spreading onto the block but the dripping if there is any will come from the bottom of the power steering pump.
It rarely leaks bad enough to lose oil between changes, but it can make things messy over time if you don't clean it. Frankly I am very frustrated that Toyota refuses to address this since it has been happening for a long time and across multiple models.
