Hey everyone, I have a 1998 Tacoma 2rz I'm currently trying to replace my timing chain but can't get my timing cover off and I've removed the oil pan and removed the oil pick-up tube there are no bolts or accessories attached beside the power steering. I believe just that's mounted on the head. I've read and seen videos of it done without removing the head any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I never saw a 2RZ in person does it have the bolt down through the head into the timing cover like the 22Re

That is most times in a oil puddle.

*****Yes indeed it does!!! 2 bolts !!!!!!

Many timing Covers get broken when those bolts are not removed and the BFH is brought out

3rz to 2Rz bebuilt block and new heads
Yeah there's two in top timing cover under valve cover.....

If your gonna be in there I'd replace with new oil pump and seals (cover and main shaft)...
and while in there the front main seal on block........

Harmonic balancers have a limited life, when they go they usally destroy the front seals and sometimes like me....crack inside of timing cover.....might check and/or replace.....

You might need to being very gentle pry the cover loose .

It has been on there a few years.

    Good luck!

The thing with using your purse is to much gets broken in your purse.

I tried using a purse to knock something loose She was not happy I broke her net book and phone.

That was a very expensive lesson Never use a purse .
