chaeck your skid plates, at one time my front IFS skid plat was loose and making a metal sound when driving, another time my fuel skid was loose and it ratteled every time I shut the doors.

Only thing I would have to say about dropping the lifter is that I didn't really hear it on the way back home.

Ugh. That's a better explanation of what it sounds like. Dropping a lifter on a 35000 mile truck? What would cause that?

Only thing I can think of is I just switched to synthetic oil. That's the only thing that has changed...

Checked oil level lately? Chances are your synthetic oil ate a seal and you are currently running on low oil, that will drop a lifter!

I literally changed to synthetic 4 days ago.

And that was the first thing I checked. Spot on to what it was 4 days ago.

It doesn't seem like it is in the motor, only reason I am thinking it is not the motor is the inconsistency in the noise.

The head service manager was talking to me about oil changes and he told me that if the car was bought with dinosaur then to keep dinosaur. He said plastic oil would hurt my truck because it has different properties not meant for it.

Think of it as raising your child vegetarian then suddenly feeding him nothing but meat.

Okay here are a couple of excerpts...

"Conventional oils come from crude oil that is pumped from the ground. Crude oil is made up of a complex mixture of molecules that form chains and rings of different sizes and shapes. Long chains of carbon atoms produce a thick, viscous fluid that flows slowly. Shorter chains produce fluid that flows more readily..........read more

Should I Use Synthetic Oil In My Car?

That depends on the vehicle's age, mileage, and the carmaker's recommendations for engine lubricants. Older vehicles with high mileage tend to have excessive mechanical wear in the engine, allowing for internal oil leakage. On vehicles with high mileage, it is not recommended to use full synthetic oil because it is thin and very free flowing, and use of it does (more often than not) result in internal oil combustion. I used full synthetic oil in a Plymouth Neon. After logging120K miles the car started to consume oil at an alarming rate....read more

Hand is fine. Made sure I would be okay by consuming another beer before going outside to hit the truck. Figured the time to drink and a beer and a slight rise in my BAC level would relieve me of any pain.
