I have tinnitus. Mine is from so many years as a rock musician and sound technician.

What I hear, is a constant ringing. I have never heard anything but the ringing, and nothing is ever garbled. I now wear hearing protection when running my power tool in my wood shop, and when I feel the ambient noise level is around 85 dB. I haven't had my hearing checked since I raised my right hand and said "I, state your name..." That was nearly 40 years ago.

As a 52 year old mechanic, I have it also. Left ear is always ringing but it generally doesn't bother me. Unfortunately it seems to be getting louder...

There's so many times when I feel like just rolling over in bed and putting a round thru my ear. Years now and no relief, tinnitus SUCKS DONKEY ASSHOLE!

I have developed some pretty bad sound irritability's on top on the tinnitus, one of the worst is the sound of clanging dishes, I swear it makes me want to run thru a wall like a bull.
I also have spells of the dizzys too.

Subscribing. I have a sporadic and random case of this crap from my time in Service and it's good to know people are finding solutions to it. If it ever gets bad or unbearably bad, I'll be sure to look here for solutions.

...^^^... FWIW, the VA rates "service connected Tinnitus" at 10%.

It's normally an easy and uncomplicated claim process too.

File, give your proof, wait a year and get your award with back pay to date of filing.

PS .. I have it and keep a fan on all night for some white noise ... a super quiet or a noisy room is very difficult for me.

The quieter the room, the louder the ring. Deafening at times.

...^^^... Yep ... The "VA Tinnitus Classes" helped me a lot ... taught me how to kind of re-program my brain to not think of it at times ... sounds weird ... but it really works a lot of the time.

But a super quiet or a noisy room is impossible to re-program.

I think a super quiet room is the worst though.

Eating lunch at a fast food joint with people talking drives me ape shit. I carry earplugs with me just for the occasion. I use to work on towboats 30 days on 30 days off. They had turbo's on the engines but I didn't like sleeping with earplugs so I figure I got my tinnitus from listening to the boat engines 24/7.

My ears ring 24 hours a day and I now sleep with earplugs because any noise will wake me up and I don't sleep worth a crap anyhow. Start this video at the 5:19 mark and listen to this boats turbo's scream as it shoves out of the lock.

Holy shit! I don't have tinnitus, but I turned that volume all the way down so I DON'T get it! Jesus Christ! I have a good buddy that has it, and I was hoping I might find something in these posts to show him. He was in artillery in the Army back in the day. Thanks for all your posts guys!

Wait the VA has Tinnitus classes? Why in the hell haven't I been told about this.

Sounds like me. But earplugs amplify the tinnitus, so it's a lose lose... So I normally bury my head in the pillows to try and reach a medium, but it ain't happy. Then my arm falls asleep.

I don't think I understand how deep this has effected me. I haven't had real peace in silence in years.

I have had Tinnitus for 8 years now. I have 90% hearing loss in my right ear. I was struck by lightning on my head which traveled down my arm exiting my thumb. It blew out my ear drum along with all the bones leaving a hole. The ENT doctor said a hearing aid won't work cuz there is no bones to connect it to.

When it first happened I would get bad dizzy spells like to the point of nausea. The first time I experienced it I was driving down a dark, really rough street with pot holes galore, luckily it was 3am so no cars were around and I completely stopped to get my head n vision straight. Scared the F out of me. I get the dizzy spells occasionally but mostly from activities the rattle my head like head banging, jumping on trampoline, roller coasters, or my favorite cuz I can't get around it, bench pressing.

I get the ringing worst when I'm doing strainous things like intense work outs. I'm a Millwright and always around loud machinery, pumps, compressors. I wear a ear plug at work but in my good ear so I don't get hear loss. Cherish what I have left.

    And I'm 28 now
