So wait, if I was high as fuck listening to DSOTM with headphones cranked in HS, why do I have an issue now? Does not compute.

CBD oil recently became legal here in Indiana (after it was legal, then illegal, then legal againo_O).....didn’t seem to help me much. It does have a very mild sedative/antianxiety type effect for me, but doesn’t really help the tinnitus directly like I hoped it would.

I think/hope legal medical marijuana nationwide is just a matter of time.....if not, it may be worth a try anyway. Allergy season makes tinnitus like 10x worse for me......right now, my right ear just screams and I’m over it!

One of the things that sometimes makes mine worse is when I am stressed I clench my jaw at night. I find opening my mouth real wide to loosen the jaw and massaging the area around the jaw joint lessens it some when it really flares up....my 2 cents.

I've had tinnitus for a long, long time and that is the best way....ignore it. There are several folks on this thread that have some serious problems that really could stand some help, but for the majority you just have to learn to tune it out. When l take my hearing aids out at the end of the day mine "roar" but over the years l have learned to focus on other things.Right now there is a diesel train running thru my head (isn't that lyrics for a song!?):)

This is good stuff. I've taken it a bit further with patting, almost slapping that area some too.

This is the other half of the prescription.................

Just curious how old you all are? I’ve had it for years but it’s been getting worse the last 5 or 6. I’m 45 and there is no such thing as silence for me. Sitting here writing this right now and since I’m thinking about it all I can had is the ringing. For me it was shooting guns and listening to music too loud, I feel like an old man but I tell my students all the time to protect their hearing because it’s easy to lose.

I’m 46, and had it since 93 from the Gulf. 24/7/365. Nothing has ever truly helped it for me and at times it’s so loud that it’s hard to concentrate which is why I longer read books. Just learned to live with it and accept it is what I’ve done.

49, and it started in kindergarten. Got ear infections every 2 to 3 weeks for a year. Then it started getting worse in my late 20s with tactical equipment (despite hearing protection). Switched from combat comm to fixed comm, and the whine and hum of HVAC equipment did me in the rest of the way. The funny thing is that I don’t have bad hearing loss, just some minor dips in three different frequency areas.

I just don’t do anything requiring silence. I always have background music going (something without words - jazz or classical) when I read, otherwise it’s high whine city. When I shoot, it’s ear plugs and 35 dB muffs, at which point the whine is a shriek.

Thank God for ear buds - they fit inside of ear muffs and help counteract the whine when using power tools or yard equipment.

White noise is your friend, but it’s important to find something that counteracts your particular frequency. Regular hearing tests help, and avoiding anything that would make it worse.

I just live with mine. I sleep with fans on. I do find that if I wear earplugs for even semi-loud sounds it is better overall. For me, if I just go on with life my brain just accepts the ringing and kind of ignores it. If I focus on it, it drives me nuts.

Had it for years it suuckz. If u dont have it u dont understand how bad it can be. Sleep with a fan, avoid quiet places and remember to put your hearing protection back on at the range!

I'm 60. I had some minor hearing loss in my left ear but the right ear was near perfect until 7 years ago. I went to bed one night with good hearing and woke up 100% deaf in the right ear. I could slap my right ear with my hand and not hear a sound. They did a MRI to check for a brain tumor but results were negative. This happens more than most realize, I've since met several others, but there isn't enough research to say for sure what causes it. The best guess docs gave me is that a tiny blood vessel supplying the auditory nerve either became clogged or burst.

I took 2 rounds of steroids in an attempt to regenerate growth in the inner ear and it did bring back SOME hearing to that ear. I can now hear sounds, but it is pretty garbled and the tinnitus is constant in that ear now.

My situation is somewhat different though. Unless I think about the tinnitus it doesn't bother me. I can usually tune it out and much prefer a quiet place over noisy. In a quiet room I can hear normal conversation and TV. Turn up the TV volume, or put me in a noisy environment and I hear fine out of the left ear, but the noise in the right ear is so garbled that it overpowers my good hearing and I simply don't understand. My wife and I used to go to a lot of high school basketball games, but the crowd noise, buzzers, horns, whistles and bouncing balls wear on me after a while. To me it is just a mix of loud noise and a conversation is impossible even with someone right next to my good ear. Since my bad ear is toward my wife it is almost impossible to hear her when I'm driving due to road noise. I joke about having a DR. note to ignore my wife. I often wear an earplug in the bad ear and that actually helps me hear clearer in the good ear.

Other than that I hear normal conversations fine, but often misinterpret what people say. Many times I'll hear one word when the speaker said something else and that has led to some embarrassing situations. It is near impossible to locate which direction sound is coming from. Although with practice I've gotten better than at 1st. I've had to re-learn what certain sounds are because everything sounds different now.

One thing that I've tried recently is to purchase wireless headpones for the TV. It eliminates all background noise such as others talking, fans blowing, AC running etc. and really helps me hear detail I've been missing for several years. I don't have to ask my wife "what did he say" and I pick up on subtle background sounds I've been missing.
