Nothing is legal on the front. Some tint may not draw as much attention as others, but anything on the front is illegal.

my truck is wrapped in 5%, even over the rears. I can see fine with my windows up. I think it will end up being a personal prefferance based on your comfort level looking through the tint. Not to mention the longer you have it you will get accustomed to it as well as it will start to lighten up some.

There is no level of tint on the front windows that is legal. The only way you can legally tint the front is if you have a doctor's note. Even in that case, it has to be removeable for night time driving.

Many get away with it though. I went about 3 years before I got ticketed whereas a friend of mine's daughter got ticketed one week after she put it on.

That's wrong. A lot of the tint shops and information sites have it wrong for California. Check the CHP link above (California Highway Patrol) or the California Vehicle Code.

CA DMV & CHP says NO tint on front windows, or windhield. period. I think some shops say that 70% is OK because it's almost clear and you're likely to not get stopped with 70% anyways. I assume it's a sales tactic

You likely won't get pulled over for tint anyways, unless you're doing something else wrong. I've had the front windows tinted on all my vehicles, only got ticketed for it once, and that was because he pulled me over for expired tags and decided to write the window ticket too.

I have 35% on the front and 20% on the back. And loved it!! Until the virginia beach police ticketed me. 1st pic is 35% on the front including factory it was 21% total. 2nd pic is VA legal 50% on the front with factory it is 43% which is legal.
