Truck is currently at the tint shop, just got a text letting me know they couldn’t tint the rear window due to my canopy being in the way.

While it may be more difficult, I can’t see it being impossible.

Wasn’t mentioned when I dropped it off and did a walk around with the tech.

Can anyone with experience chime in on this?

The truck is an SR with clear factory glass and a solid rear window.

    *Edited to include truck specs*

Since when do you put tint on the outside of the glass.

Why would the canopy be an issue? I thought tint is normally applied on the inside surface...

Guy claims his tech likes to use the outside dimss to measure. BS as far as I’m concerned.

the guy I take all my cars too, uses the outside to measure and cut (nothing super precise or anything), before going on the inside to install. But it shouldn't be a show stopper as that's what the shop is making it sound like

My impression is that the shop isnt very hungry for business. I'd respond with "well if you cant do it, perhaps I can find someone else up the road that can."

Ok so they spend a few minutes and slide your canopy back a few inches, unless they are inept and don't know how to do that, or want to charge you an arm and a leg to do it. Either way sounds like a them issue, they should of noted that during the walk around.

Ok, this sounds reasonable. Would have been less irritating if discussed at drop-off.

Mr. Detail in Ballard. Walkable from work and seemed to have decent reviews.

Will likely go to midnight tint to finish the job.

Edit: Midnight won’t do the job without pulling the canopy either.

This too me, is the shitty part. I'm guessing had you been told, you'd have to take it to another shop, and be down another day, you would have not used them. I wouldn't have.

Any tint shop worth a damn is going to cut the tint out with a plotter (time=money), so it should have been a non-issue.

The place I had mine does has a precision cutting machine that cuts the tint. Just type in what vehicle the tint is for and it cuts it. Quick and easy. I went in, asked em how busy they were, they said they could have me finished in 45 minutes. In and out quickly!

    Yup.

    Time=money

The more cars you can turn over in a day, means more money. A plotter means no messing around with manually cutting the tint (except the windshield usually).
