I paid $250 in commiefornia, 30% all the way around, minus the front windshield.

Handy table of tint limits by state: http://tintlaws.com/ and http://www.iwfa.com/Portals/0/PDFDocs/Law_Charts/StateLawChart03.27.2015.pdf

About 8 years ago I paid $65 for a guy to come out to my house and do one side window on my 4runner (replacement window).

I haven't yet had enough of an urge to tint my Tacoma's windows that I've done anything about it. If I should do so it'll be no more than legal; seems like hanging a "pull me over" sign on the vehicle. (that and the stock rear window tint is plenty for my needs)

I think I paid about $410 for F1 pinnacle ceramic all the way around. Wouldn't think twice about doing it again.

Anyone go with the air 80 clear on the windshield too?

I'm in TN and 35% is the legal limit. I got 20% all around (except windshield) and it looks good. Cost $180 or a little less I believe. I didn't get llumar or ceramic, but whatever I got works good enough for me and I bet if I got one of the more expensive options I couldn't tell a difference.

If you go any higher than like 30-35% it's not even worth spending the money IMO.

115 for mine, and was done in 2 hours and matched perfectly to rear.

I thought about it. But... By the time I got around to scheduling a tint appointment... I had some rock chips on the windshield (takes all of 5 minutes in az). Given that I average a new windshield every 8 months... I can't see it really being worth it.

That's one of the couple downsides of having expensive tint. It may be warrantied for a lifetime, but only for a tint. You replace your windshield and you'll need to pay for another tint.

Yeah. I'm not sure how it works with full glass coverage... If they'd replace the clear stuff in addition to a busted windshield. Same for side windows.

Depends where you go but I'm sure they'd quote your "per glass" and not charge you another all around cost if you were just replacing 1 piece. I think my shop is something like $100 a panel? But all around at once saves you like $50-$80.

Obviously jurisdictions vary in how tint laws are enforced.

That said, from my experience, just because you have illegal tint doesn't mean you will get stopped; and just because you don't have illegal tint doesn't mean you won't. Find me a cop that can't get probable cause from any car driving by and I'll show you a cop that's blind, deaf, or lazy.

I've had illegal tint on every car I've ever owned... and I've been stopped for it exactly zero times. This may because I have lived in areas where they just don't give a shit, or it might be because my truck doesn't look like it belongs to a d-baggish piece of shit thus allowing the cops to use my tint as the justification to see what else I might be up to.

Point being, I wouldn't even consider the risk of getting stopped or getting a ticket as part of my decision making process about getting illegal tint or not.

I live where this is a true statement. Don't be a loud 90s Honda civic with blacked out tint revving at red lights. You can have a clean truck with black tint and no one will bat an eye. Just don't be a douche.

This principle (don't be a douche, and things are much easier) applies to most things in life.

That's a good counterpoint to having it done.
I never really thought about that one.
Becomes an expensive proposition if you go thru windshields often

Shop here does them for $30/window, so my fronts cost me $60 to go to 35% (MA legal limit).

I think the back is right around 20% from the factory.

That is the highest price I've ever heard of... holy shit. It should've been around $160

~28% 20% is a tad darker but with the light coming through the windshield it tends to "wash out" the darkness so it appears to be a close match from the outside.
