    Good morning!

One stage I didn't have pictures of is when we installed 3/4inch plywood on top of the cedar over the loft beams, the white cedar in my opinion didn't feel like it would hold our weight + furniture so we bolstered it with the plywood and 3 inch deck screws.

So after we got our power put in we put a queen size mattress in the bedroom loft and we started sleeping in the house. We we're using an A frame ladder to get us up and down and we had our 4 dogs in their beds downstairs.

    KIMG0669.jpg
We took some time thinking about what to do next, but ultimately decided to get a fridge as that was a big area of tension with my parents because trying to store food for 4 adults in one fridge is no easy task. Got a pretty good deal on a labor day sale and picked up our fridge for 700 bucks.

    KIMG0671.jpg

As you can see by the tape on the wall we we're planning for our stairs. As with most tiny houses everything has to be able to have multiple purposes when feasible so we were planning on making them into a drawer and cabinet system for storing our stuff as well as being access to both lofts.

The other critical need was flat level working space and a place to enjoy meals. So we made the bar. It also served as my wife's on call office space when she worked from home.

    KIMG0676.jpg
We also went to a discount furniture store and picked up our barn door for the bathroom including all the hardware for $200. This is almost unheard of now as most of these can be upwards of $700.

    Started building the stairs

    KIMG0680.jpg

Stayed up till 2 am working on them so we could get them to slide in all the way and clear the walk path but we ultimately just decided to screw a number of them into place and we would have to redesign again later as I am 6 foot and was having to bed down slightly to avoid getting hit by the ceiling fan.

Bought our materials for our front deck, 7x16.

Don't have photos of the build process because we literally built it in 48 hours.

Changed our full light glass door to a half light door with a XL dog door so the pups could come and go without having to manually let them out. It was buster approved ;)

Got some cabinets custom built to our specs
    KIMG1412.jpg
Everything fit nicely except the one on the end which conflicted with the wheel well, but it wasn't too big a deal to just bump it out. Cutting the back would have messed up the roll out trash can storage so I just elected to move the whole thing forward a bit and I've learned to love it, a few more inches of counterspace was easy to accept.

Got it on the first try. Wohoo

Put in the bracing for our farm sink.

    KIMG1449.jpg

Then had a long think about what kind of countertops we would want. Stone would be out of the question due to the weight and possibly of breakage when moving the house, and we aren't really tile or linoleum people. We ultimately decided we like wood and live edge is really nice when done right.

Got a quote of $2500 to have it done... Well that was just too expensive in my mind for the small space we had. I found some 150 year old poplar slabs that had been dried and stored up in a warehouse for a few years. Paid about 500 and bought a router and looked up a router plane design on YouTube.
    KIMG1415.jpg

    Got to work

Don't get the Ryobi- it was crap and broke in about 3 days

The process of flattening, milling, routering, sealing, jointing, and staining these took about 3 months

$245/square foot - cheaper than the house I'm building

    edit
(or maybe not. How many hours of sweat equity and what's the owners time worth?)

    edit
(and the price of the lot is included in my square foot calculation)

    Damn.

    WE GOT WATER!
    KIMG1463.jpg

Up to this point we had a spigot outside with potable well water, we would fill up gallon jugs with water and use a dishwashing pail to wash dishes, hands and ect. We had a friend who works with plumbing hook up our stuff free of charge which made a huge difference in our quality of life. You never know just how nice it is to brush your teeth and spit in the sink or wash your hands without having to worry about filling up a pail or a jug. The habit was so engrained my wife had to catch me for weeks after the fact trying to step out on the deck to brush my teeth.

Started putting down flooring in the loft

Idk why it's turning everything sideways. We got a vented washer dryer combo unit. Takes about 3 hours to wash and dry but we never have to remember to swap things over.
