That is an awesome truck, my friend! While I love my '00 Tacoma TRD, it certainly pales in comparison.

More to the point -- a while back you replied to a forum member about how to correct/repair a rear braking axle issue ("won't turn freely"). You referenced a website ...but I can't pull it up. I'd sure appreciate any help you could give me about this issue.

In a nutshell, while it doesn't happen all the time, it happens way too much ... when I slow down and apply the brakes, the rear brakes lock up ... I can relieve it if I back up or slightly reeve my engine.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Haha yea that would been cool to see but with the way that my day was going it would have probably ended in a puddle of rubber and a charred rim :frusty:

Thanks! Where in Jersey are you?

Thanks Bob! Are you referring to frozen bell cranks? What your e-brake cable attaches to? If so, I have a .pdf of the how-to saved on my computer, I can email it to ya if you'd like. You could also google "bell crank tundra solutions" and you should find it.. Lemme know.. Good luck :)

Been a while since I posted in here.. Not much doing lately

This past week I repainted my skids and sliders and got a synthetic winch rope, just need to get it spooled up

well I finally got the line spooled yesterday! I used my BIL's truck as tension and it spooled up evenly and nice and tight on the drum. I bought a 100' rope and cut 25' off to make an extension (maybe some soft shackles too). The full 100' would not have fit on the drum anyway.. might have gotten away w/ 85' or so..

Daystar poly rollers seemed to work just fine

For the license plate holder I bolted a set of D-cell Maglight brackets to the back and they snug onto the rollers perfectly!

To prevent the shackle from rattling around I used some pipe insulation and just wrapped it around the pin.

Do you notice much shackle rattle? I just threw some 5/8"s on my rear bumper and don't think they move at all. I am disappointed at how puny 5/8" shackles look compared to my 3/4" but 4x made the holes that way so i gotta deal.

I saw you bought spare LCA's. Gonna beef those fuckers up? :spy:

Honestly I haven't even driven anywhere yet with the shackle up front haha.. I figured it would shake around though and I hate the look when the shackle is cocked to the side. Had the pipe insulation lying around Soooo whahla!

Haven't got the LCA yet, waitin on the seller, but really just picked them up so I don't have to wrestle with replacing the bushings lol, this way il just replace the whole LCA, comes with nearly new ball joints too so it's a good deal!

I figure our LCA's take the most hits so it may be worth armoring them without just by welding some more plate to the bottom vs adding an LCA skid like BAMF sells. Though I just realized you already rock BAMF skids so I guess there wouldn't be much benefit?

I do need to get on the replacement LBJ train myself. I have over 190k on what my be original LBJ's.

I saw you got the IFS and transmission skids from RAT but do you have a transfer case skid? I feel like many people don't but it just seems so exposed to me. Thinking about getting a skid row tcase skid and making my own trans skid in the mean time.

Yea the BAMF LCA skids have done me well!

My LBJs were replaced by the PO around 45k under the recall, but I have 195k now so it's time.

Love my RAT skids! I didn't get the TC skid b/c I wasn't sure if it would be compatible w/ my bolt-on sliders. I'm unsure on the design also with no rear support, so I plan on welding in another crossmember and fabbing up a skid myself

Have you hit your t case stock skid on much though? I feel like it should get hit a lot but surprisingly doesn't. I know usually tranny skids are one sheet with a single bend so they should be easy for me to do.

Yea Surprisingly the stock TC skid hasn't taken much of a beating  but it def needs moar protection! My stock gas tank skid on the other hand has seen better days! I know RAT makes them too, maybe I'll get one down the road..

Yeah I was thinking of just welding plate onto the existing gas tank skid. And by me I mean one of my friends who weld. My build is super slow right now so it will likely be after we get a house and I have a 2 wheeled toy in the garage.

Today I installed new CVJ axles, Oem LBJs (Camelback Toyota) and Moog inner/outer tie rods. Went pretty good, and it was my first time doing either one!!

Axles and boots seemed to be of really high quality. I went with the high angle inner boots and from the looks of them they are definitely an improvement in the spacing of the fins. We'll see how they last. The old ones were freakin toast  To pop the axles I found that a large Cat's paw worked great on the DS and a BFH on the other. Had to run out and get a deep socket 35mm b/c the one I had was too shallow. :frusty:

    out with the old
    [IMG]

The inner tie rods were a bit worn and the outers had a ton of slop in them. I cut open the OTRE boots and there was some significant wear. The LBJs that I took off were def showing their age too, these had ~150k on em. Buttoned it all up, took it for a spin and things felt smoooooth :). And the steering was sooo responsive !!

Hoping to get some new rubber pretty soon so I think I'll wait to get it aligned til then most likely.. Tracking pretty good right now though.. Can't wait til I can get some new UCAs !!!

Also, my experience with both companies was fantastic and each went out of their way to accommodate me in some way! Very pleased.

Where'd you get the decals and do you know where your roof rack came from? Looks like it was on the truck when you bought it.

Thanks buddy! Send CBOY808 a pm, he makes the decals based on sockmonkey's design, also check the Group Buy section, there's a current thread for them.

The roof rack was dealer installed by the PO, brand is Perrycraft, Google them they are still available. It's a nice little rack, streamline, pretty sturdy, and adjustable.
