I have been noticing an annoying little rhythmic squeak coming from the rear somewhere and finally narrowed it down to the rearmost u joint. Also had some funny vibes. Upon further inspection I found this..

So last wknd I dropped the whole drive shaft and removed the bad joint. What a royal PITA!! For some reason I could press the joints free but couldn't get them the hell out of the ears. Ultimately I brought out the trusty angle grinder and went to town cutting up the joint.

Yesterday, I used the wire wheel and cleaned everything up; ground down all the rock scrapes and rough spots; even used the Dremel to polish the inside of where the u joint cap sits. Also took the time to thoroughly clean and degrease the shaft, the DC, the front u joint, and clean out the old grease in the slip yoke.

Today I pressed in the new joint, GMB Brand pn04371-60070. Seemed like a good quality part and had a protected center zerk just like the oem one that I removed. Added fresh RedNTacky to all the zerks and the yoke. Reinstalled the DS and added a 3/4" spacer to drop the Center Support Bearing. The CSB itself seemed to still be in fine shape.
Everything is runnin super smooth now, the noise is gone, and I have had no vibes so far.

Yea it was pretty beat to shit, likely from the last Rausch trip lol. Inside the broken cap the bearings were rusty dust and nearly half of the u joint shaft was worn down haha. It is A-ok now :D

Yea I'm like 75%.. You? What's up with your rig these days?

After 2 1/2yrs of having no rear bumper:eek:, I finally picked one up!!! Got a good deal on an older style AP wrap around tube bumper from a member here, Sloth, thanks Seth

It's in great shape just needs some wire wheeling, prep, and a fresh coat of paint. I've got some ideas to move the hitch receiver up behind the license plate for a better departure angle, add some recovery points, and possibly add in some dimple die plates for protection and to have it match the front ARB a little more.

    Here's how it sits now..

As you can see I just need to clean up some surface rust and sand off the residue from some abrasive tape that was on the 'step' area... then off to paint!

Real excited to see where this goes:D

I took off my Reese hitch today, sanded the rust off the frame and re-painted it. Then I started sanding down the rough spots on the bumper, quickly said 'fuck it' and wire wheeled to whole damn thing down to bare metal. Cleaned up nice.

Hopefully I can find some time this wk to weld in the recovery points. Also decided to add some aux back-up lights to either side of the license plate lights. Should be a piece of cake to make the cut-outs in the thin plate.

Yeah but the tranny skid is essentially a straight sheet with two bends in it. Not worth the price when I can go to fazzios and get it made for the cost of the plate.

Got the bumper mounted today!! Used Rustoleum self etching primer and Rustoleum Semi Black for paint

Was able to rig up my old aux back-up lights quite nicely..

Also welded some gussets in-line w/ the mounting plates for recovery points. Didn't have any 3/8" lying around soo used 1/2" plate:eek: boy was that a bitch to drill through w/o a drill press.. they are seriously beefy

Didn't tackle the hitch receiver relocation yet, that will be down the road; along w/ the dimple die plates.. Also discovered that my previous rear fender-bender on the DS tweaked the fbedside quite a bit so there was some cussing, drilling, and general n*%$@r rigging to be done to prevent the wrap-arounds from hitting the bedside.

I am very happy w/ the outcome!
