Your dash is going to display a more significant drop than you're actually going to have. You have to calibrate the speedometer to the bigger tires or everything is going to be off.

Anybody have any idea what could cause this? I have a Pioneer NEX4400 with a front camera and I’ve checked all the wiring, no issues there. This happens randomly

Id say harness or a connection issue. Our Nissan Leaf had a similar problem

Is there a known amount different tire sizes change speedometer mileage or is it always recommended to get calibrated?

I also rarely let it get below half, and drive like a dad...average 20mpg here in mostly flat C-bus OH. It also helps that I don't drive in traffic to get to work. I can cruise control drive most of my route to work in the city. Heavy traffic is going the opposite way from me when I go to work.

Lots to read thru. Good thread! Is there anything to add to the 2022 models? I just sold my first Tacoma(an access cab) SR5 this past week to CarMax. Really enjoyed owning that one. Bought it new. I couldn't believe how high the appraisal was!

I'm taking delivery on a 2022 Tacoma SR5 3.5L 4x2 this coming week. This model has a few add ons plus one big dealer added package. I would have preferred to order exactly what I wanted, but that is just not possible these days.

    22mpg in the summer
    20 mpg in the winter

I also have 265/75/16 standard load

If you want to save mpg.... lightweight wheels and tires help. My rims are like 17lbs
My tires are 43lbs. I've seen 265/75/16 AT tires as light as 39 lbs.

I get roughly 350-400 miles per tank.

My 2003 4runner did this but you have to hold down whichever window and double click the unlock button on the fob. Awesome lil trick... Thanks for the tip I didn't know my 22 Tacoma had a feature like this

I thought I read somewhere from the last few pages in this thread but it was someone mentioning that when your passenger was sitting in the passenger seat waiting for you (the driver with the key fob) that they can push PTS twice then hold it to start the engine? similar to the remote start but via the sequence I just mentioned. So they could sit in the ac while waiting for you to exit the house or whatever? Facts or I'm making things up ? lol

Yes that works. The key fob has to be in the truck and you have to hold the start button for like 13 seconds.

Quick question to the people with '21+ Tacos, does the transmission still automatically downshift into a very low gear, (i.e. 3rd) during slight grade changes?

Yes, but ONLY when the cruise control is set. Cruise “off” and easy to maintain 65+mph on many hills with the auto trans remaining in 6th gear that would result in a 2 gear downshift with the WORTHLESS cruise control “on”.

Yes, not very low gear but it will downshift a gear on slight inclines. Even on level ground sometimes if you don't even give it enough go pedal. I.e. it will go from 4th to 3rd on slight incline. Not a big deal as it can easily be fixed with a tune from my understanding or by pressing ect button usually or just giving it more go pedal.

Even with ect mine would do it. On a few road trips it was extremely annoying, was hoping Toyota would address it. Guess I’ll wait for the hybrid/electric version
