So no heal/toe downshifting then? :(

Or rather, it's more risky as it could stall depending on timing with the clutch?

I'll be honest here, I haven't read all 41 pages, but I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer for. I have always left my car keys in my car when parked in the garage. Will leaving the fob inside the cab cause the battery to wear out faster than bringing it in the house?

I believe it is only on automatics, I tried stepping on gas and break, and all I get is a warning. I always believed that the so called "unintended acceleration" problems in Toyota were caused by stupid people driving automatic transmission vehicles. If you take away the stupid, or automatic, there is no more "unintended acceleration", so Toyota didn't feel the need to cut our engines off in manuals ;-)

I do this as well. I don't see why it would. My understanding is that it's always transmitting. I had a 2010 TL with keyless and I left it in the car every day for 4 years. Replaced the battery once.

Does the bead outlet automatically turn off after some time? I'm running a 24 inch lcd tv/DVD combo off it with the truck off. Can I run it for a couple of hours without draining the battery?

I may be wrong but I have a recollection that there is something in the manual in the FOB section that says it does drain the battery. It tells you how to turn off the FOB by pressing two buttons on the FOB until the LED flashes.

Now that you mention that, I seem to recall it also. It said something about if you are washing/cleaning it to do that to prevent battery drain. I'll look for it in the manual. Thanks for the memory jog!

Do you need to know, or care?
It only delivers power when the vehicle is running. 400 watts max, 100 watts when being driven. You would need to check the total wattage of your combo.

The ignition has to be on for the plug to work if I remember correctly. I haven't left my truck with the ignition on for very long but I do know that in accessory mode it will turn itself off after about 15 minutes.
Edit: actually I think I tried using it with the ignition on and the engine off and it did not work. Pretty sure the engine has to actually be running

So to clarify, the 100 watt plug in the bed does work when the truck is off and my tv works within these limits. I want to know if the plug will automatically turn off and if not how long can I safely run it and still be able to start the truck.

You're right, it will work with the ignition on but engine not running. I guess you'd have to do some math based on amp hours of the battery vs amps drawn by your setup and the truck then figure out how much juice you need to crank the engine. I wouldn't run it for long without a friend with jumper cables nearby or at least one of those jump boxes. I don't know if the truck is smart enough to turn off the ignition before it kills the battery.

    Good luck

Who knows how to get the grill out? I've been googling and can't find a tutorial. I have a mad scientist thought but I starts with that step.

Search on this site. Several folks have documented the grille removal. Maybe not a video though.

I also know that there is a dealer change or a Carista app change that limits the proximity of the smart key to only the drivers area or the entire cab for engine start.

The key can be disabled by holding the lock button and pushing unlock twice. This is great when you want to leave the FOB in the car and just take the door key, i.e. running, backpacking, kayaking etc.

Okay so this is probably obvious but I did some research. It's the truck that sends out the transmission looking for the FOB. The FOB remains dormant (somewhat, its still using power waiting for the truck signal. That's why battery change every year or so) until it receives the signal from the truck. When the truck receives a return signal from the now active FOB it will activate what ever you have designated such as interior lights. The FOB and truck exchange signals as long as they are in range with each other. Or until the truck is started. Once the truck is started the FOB shuts down. Hence the reason you can start the truck and walk away and the truck continues to run. When you shut the truck off the truck starts transmitting again looking for the FOB. Toyota tech says that the fob uses a very insignificant amount of power when exchanging signals with the truck but it could eventually drain the FOB battery. Toyota recommends if you are not going to use your truck for 30 days or longer you disconnect the battery as power is used by the truck sending out the transmission and it overrides the 15 power shutoff. Also Toyota says if you put your truck in a garage do not store the FOB within 5 feet. Otherwise the FOB and truck will spend the time sweet talking each other and drain the FOB battery. (Thank you Tim Hubbard Toyota service manager):deadhorse:
