Uhaul trailers do not have electric brakes, a controller will not be necessary.

    Yes they’re that mediocre.

I find that fuel economy doesn’t suffer that much with a car trailer so long as you’re easy on the acceration. I get 16-17 mpg pulling our trailer + car with my Nissan.

    Oh. Did not know that.

That's encouraging. I've only towed my utility trailer, and the ramp/gate on the back kills MPGs. Not sure if the different powertrain of yours plays a role at all.

The 6MT 2wd definitely helps. I can get 23 mpg out of that thing empty if I can resist the temptation to misbehave

Ooooh! yeah that definitely helps. I thought you were in the 2000 4x4 you have in your profile.

Around town (small down with no stop lights and speeds 35-55 MPH) I can get 21-22.5 once the fluids are up to temp, but can't keep pushing that kind of mileage beyond maybe 60. If I have a trailer or a headwind I am not breaking twenty.

Ahh the ol parachute! Those gates are turrball. Other than it would be more narrow and cost a little more; I can’t figure out why they don’t make em to fold flat on the deck if unloaded or there is room.

Just today, I saw the usual inbred-Jed getting on the highway with a full load of leaves to redistribute them from his yard to the roadways,,,, but dipshit forgot the gate was gonna fill and keep most on his trailer.

I've used my Tacoma to haul motorcycles and tractors all over the place. As others have said, don't feel the need to speed. Make sure that you check your load every time you stop for fuel, which will be a lot more frequent than you'd imagine. Also check the hitch, safety chains and wiring.

And probably the number one thing to keep in mind is how slowly you'll accelerate and how poor your braking action will be, regardless of road conditions.

For the most part, relax, pay attention, get a soda and a book on tape and enjoy the drive. And report back when you've made the trip safely!

    Yes good point.

There are some times when I checked the straps for the car on the U-Haul trailer while stopping for gas. I had to retighten the straps as they loosened a bit (not terribly loose though).

How did you set up the dash on OBD Fusion to monitor the torque converter? I'm having some trouble getting that set up prior to my trip.
