Tire Balancing Issue Causes: Size, Type, Brand?

    Every now and then I see posts about issues getting tires balanced. The last post that comes to mind was about a guy having issues with some Falken AT4Ws. I don't recall the size, however. I've also seen posts here and other places about issues with Mickey Thompson tires taking a lot of weight to balance. I don't know the sizes of the tires in question, so...
    1. Are balancing issues more of a problem with larger (33"+) tires?
    2. Are balancing issues more of a problem with mud terrains and hybrids, as opposed to all terrains and highway/touring/SUV tires?
    3. Are certain brands of tires, regardless of size & type, more notorious for being difficult to balance, require more weight, require more frequent rebalancing, etc.?

    3. is probably the most correct. Some brands are known for balancing better than others. I've personally had bad luck with Goodyear so I stay away (personal preference). But ultimately, I think more people should get road force / ride match balancing done. I have some 35" Falken's on one of my vehicles and 3 take almost no weight, 1 takes closer to 6oz but I have zero vibration. They are road force balanced.

    The answer is yes to all 3. Larger tires, more aggressive tread, and manufacturing all play a role. As for re-balancing, that is a function of how the tires wear, alignments, driving habits, and maintenance (Tire rotations and inflation pressures)
