Rim survived fine, I'm driving on it now with no issues.

Generally I've been pleased with the Duratracs, not sure if this is a consistent issue because all the reviews I read before purchasing didn't say anything about this issue.

Seeing the picture you uploaded reminds me of the Scout Motto: BE PREPARED which means you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your DUTY.

Tire just don’t blow while driving. Usually what happens is you hit something that damages the tire causing failure or in your case. The tire probably was going low on air pressure you kept driving, what happens is the sidewalls overheat causing them to breakdown and the total failure of the tire.

Yeah, when you run a tire low on air, they get really hot and will eventually break down and blow.
Some buddies of mine and I had that happen once. When we were changing the flat, which was shredded, it was so hot, you couldn't keep a hand on it.

Yeah that's gotta be what happened. I just don't remember seeing the TPMS light come on as it got progressively worse and worse which is weird, because I would definitely have noticed that light and pulled over to check it out.

The TPMS won't show for a catastrophic failure. Sure, it may have shown for symptoms or causes of that failure, but when the bitch blows, sometimes it just blows.
Low air pressure is just one of a few things that could cause a tire to blow.
