Sorry if this has been posted before. Couldn't find any threads.

So, are tire certificates worth it? Specifically the Discount Tire/America's Tire certificates.

Do you find yourself needing to replace tires for nails or other damage related incidents often and before the life of the tire is typically up? If so, may be worth it. If not, I would pass. I have never bought them. I am a skeptic of this kind of stuff, but in general it feels like any regular old warranty to me where the seller has a better chance of making pure profit off of it than I do of benefitting from it. Obviously plenty of people do end up using them and I do think they are obviously useful if you have a problem, but personally I just budget for the replacement of a tire if it gets to that point. Especially on a truck tire and not a super thin car tire.

I dunno, I just think of all the tires I’ve bought and had I opted for the hazard cert every time, I would have spent thousands on that alone by now. I have yet to need a tire replaced due to damage and I drive on construction job sites daily. With the thousands I would have spent, I have some pocket change available to buy a tire if needed.

Of course, now that I say all this I’ll probably get a nail in a tire soon.

I wouldn't bother. Get yourself a patch kit, a high capacity bicycle pump & you should be good.

One other use case to think about here. Discount Tire Direct recently honored two certs for two tires I got from them a couple years ago. The tires were starting to have severe balancing issues after trouble free balancing and use up to that point. I guess they were going out of round or something. I shared the road force balance numbers from my local shop (there are no DT stores in my area) and they just gave me my money back for those 2 tires. It was pretty sweet. I think the certs were 17 bucks per tire or something like that. It felt like a pretty good deal and I'd probably do it again.

Good input. Yeah, you're definitely getting a puncture soon!

Mine have always gone in cycles. Like some tires just seem to be nail magnets. Then, nothing for years.

Well, certs seem to be about 20% the cost of the tires now. Not exactly cheap, and they only apply to the tires purchased. Not the replacements.

Costco tires I believe have road hazard covered as part of the tire purchase

I go back to Costco to have my tires rotated and balanced every 5,000 miles at no charge.

The certs have always paid for themselves for me.

Truck tires? No. In 25 years of truck ownership, I've irreparably damaged one tire. Average - way in favor of no certs.

Car tires? Usually no. I drive a small car to a cement plant and through two or three construction zones. The potholes in said construction zones are on average between 1-2x as deep as my sidewall height. Two weeks ago I already snake-bit a tire on the car. I bought the certs on the replacement set. :anonymous::anonymous::anonymous:
