The space between the tires and the upper control arms really limit the use of chains or cables. Personally I would avoid chains/cables on the front and get snow tires if you think it is really necessary.

Agreed. good tires make more difference imo. when I do put them on they help, but not as much as the new tires did compared to the old. I run cooper st Maxx now. light years better than bfg ko all terrains, and those weren't too bad (not trying to start a fight, just my opinion).

Chains always help traction in ice and snow, but it doesn't necessarily mean your going to be able to pull a snowcat uphill in that much snow.:)

Saw these at SEMA this week https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDz7NJ6L2ZA Thought they were warmers at first but then talked to the folks at Shark Ind. Still have my doubts but may be worth a try on my cars with low clearance. Less space and weight for sure. They did say they needed some snow to drive on as they will wear out quicker on asphalt/ice only. Suppose to be approved by C.H.P. in CA too!

There is also the same basic thing sold as the Autosock. I've never tried them, but I know people who have, and said they worked alright. The traction surface is a synthetic mesh that looks similar to burlap. I've only ever used chains in 16" + deep snow or steep icy roads, so would not have a use for them myself, since I run winter rated rubber on a 4x4.
