Hi guys, I just picked up a 2016 SR5 access cab 4x4. Looking at either getting some blizzaks dmv2's or some Cooper discoverer m+s tires. Can I get some opinions on those? I live in Duluth MN, do you think it's worth to get a set of steel wheels to mount those on?

    Thanks for the help!

you're comparing a winter tire to an all season?

Not sure if your concern is for winter or just a general tyre to have.
I haven't tried the Cooper ones you listed but I've had blizzaks in the past. They are a pretty good winter tyre but found they wear pretty quick.
The Michelin x ice lasted the longest for me on my Jetta.
Parents have the Blizzaks on their subaru forester and I have Nokian Hakkapeliata R2s on the taco.
Absolutely love the Nokians. Amazing winter tyre last year.

So something to consider if you want a good winter would be the Nokian.

Well I guess they consider the Cooper m+s a good snow tire, but yes I am looking for good snow tires for it.

Don’t have any feedback on either tires, but I just picked up the BFG K02s. Maybe take a look into these, lots of folks rave about’em.

an all season will never be as good as a the cheapest winter is.
Its all in the compounds used to make the rubber.

Blizzaks have great reviews and many love them. They are good I just didn't like that I only got two seasons out of them when I had them.
I got 4 seasons out of my x Ice. Probably could've squeezed another season out of them but when I got a new set we were expecting a harsh winter so I figured may as well get a new set.

I've only had the Nokians a season so far. this will be my second season so time will tell how long they last but when I took them off in the spring they still looked brand new. So looks promising, and after how well they performed I will definitely be getting them again.

Master craft Gacier Grip II are a good snow tire. Ran these on my daughters Accord while stationed in Montana.

depends on the type of winter you get. Wet slushy snow I hear they are fine. but experience with them in a place that gets really icy winters FUCK THAT never again would I run a tire like that all year round. They were fucking scary

They use a hard tire compound so definitely not good for ice.

When you ran x-ice or nokians did you have to run a different tire size from oem? From what I can tell they don't make either in size 245-75-16

the x ice were on my jetta so they had the size I needed.

As with the tacoma (TRD Off road) they make a 265 70 16.
    So I run that size.

I picked up some oem sr5 wheels and put dmv2s on in anticipation of the upcoming winter.
I haven't run them yet on the Tacoma, but I had them on my Mazda cx5. They have 4 seasons on them now (sold to parents) and are doing just fine. They have great winter traction. Only negative I noticed was a tendency to follow rain grooves. They are the top rated studless winter tire on Tire rack. Those ratings have always wor
