    Hey Guys,
    short presentation.
I’m from Germany, not more the youngest and for the next 2 years in Tuscaloosa AL. One of my dreams were own a Tacoma. This were realized few days ago - 2018 TRD OR.

My first mod were mount larger wheels. 275/55 on 20x9 +18 Big Block 726. Looks great (my opinion) and no rubbing (stock susp). The Taco is not used for offroad use.

In the city or with lower speed - everything is good, but with 75 cruise control and a slight slope, the transmission is only busy with shifting between 3th and 4th. It is no fun more.
Unfortunately, my daily route has some slopes :(

What do they guys with 275/70 or larger?!

Fortunately, I have bought the set by Tire Engineers and they offer me a 30 day satisfaction guarantee for the tires. Therefore I can change the tires once.

    What would be your recommendation?
    Diameter in mm
    265/70/16 - 777default
    275/55/20 - 811actually
    new options
    255/55/20 - 789
    265/50/20 - 773

what is the optimal tire for my Taco (and me)?

    Welcome!
I’m not sure exactly what you’re trying to say, but I for one would love to see a pic of you’re truck on some 20x9’s

Willkommen in der Welt von Tacoma!

If you increase the diameter or weight of your wheels and tires the engine and transmission will have to work harder. The engine in the new Tacomas is a small displacement motor so it struggles with heavy tire/wheel combos. The same is true of larger diameter. Making your truck look nice almost always means reduced performance.

The "optimal" tire size is exactly the same as Toyota put on it when you bought it.

Welcome. Your English is pretty good. I would just stay with the factory tires since you only plan on two years and all street driving.

Willkommen zu Amerika! Bist du in Deutschland geboren? Und warum hast du nach Amerika kommen? Für Arbeit? Lol. Mein Deutsch ist nicht sehr gut... Ich habe die letzte 3 Jahren Deutsch gelernt. Lol mir leid.
Honestly man, stock tire size is the only size that will fix the 3-4 gear at highway speeds. I had 255 80 17, and now I have 285 75 17, both caused my truck to stay in 4th gear on the highway, especially when going up a slope. If you are going to go to a bigger size, you’re going to have to accept it, unfortunately.

    Thx
Yep, I'm born in Germany and I'm here for temporally 2, perhaps 3 years. I work at the Mercedes-Plant in Vance AL. And hey, your german is good!
Thats pitty, the tires fits optical perfect. I want to travel with this, but not so. I think I have to switch to 265/50

..and if I go back, I want take him with me

Has anyone experience with AMP tires? The Terrain Gripper is in 265/50 available and looks not bad.
How is the noise on the HWY?

Since Saturday, my ride has the new tires in the size 255/55R20. The feeling from missing power is gone.
Unfortunality, in this size are only HT tires available. I will thought in next time about 18inch with 265/60

Got nothing to contribute. But to hear a Tacoma is a dream vehicle from a person born in a land of Hilux’s, among other cool euro cars we’ll never get here.......... I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond.
