I don't do a lot of heavy off roading, I go out to bald eagle state forest here in PA every couple weeks camping and normally do some trails while I'm there. Looking to get something cheaper and simple that'll get the job done.

I was going to get the viair 88p but came across this craftsman air inflator. I have the 20v craftsman power tool line up so I have a bunch of batteries already. Figured it could come in handy around the house as well, and to fill up air mattress when camping. Will it work just as well as the viair for topping off my tires? Thinking I could just plug it into the bed so I don't have to worry about batteries.

Would love to hear your input!

I have the Craftsman to use around the house when I don't need my big compressor. It does the job with inflating tires but it's cheaply made and would probably shatter if dropped.

    I recommend getting the VIAIR.

There is a big difference in output between the pumps that use the cigarette lighter and clamp to battery post. Get the Viair.

Another alternative is you could buy the air compressor sold by the tool brand that you use for your other battery powered tools.
I've been using the RIGID one for a little bit and it's pretty decent. But then again I don't air up / air down more than a couple times a year.

Compare the 'cubic feet per minute' or cfm, to know which will perform (fill tires in this case) faster.
Duty cycle is another factor to consider like golfindia said

    Just the basics
I own an ARB portable single compressor but recently picked up the Milwaukee M18 air compressor. It's pretty slick.
