As stated, easily plugged, will last the rest of the tires life. Plug this, use as spare, new tire on nice rim?

Engineers have little to say about what gets presented to the public. We are kept locked away. All of that is conceived and written by marketing and legal. The tire industry also recommends over inflating your tires. Why? Because an over inflated tire is less likely to blow out than an under inflated tire. It is purely driven by liability concerns. Every time I take my truck to a tire shop it comes back WAY overinflated, and that is why. The fact that an over inflated tire wears more quickly is just icing on their cake, and they could care less about the performance that you get.

OPs tire can be plugged even at the edge , since its an AT tire or E rated with extra layers of rubber carcass could be a little tougher to ream thru all the way to where the plug penetrates the inner carcass and will properly seal, that would be the only issue, if I lived closer id plug it for him would take about 3 minutes and would never leak, guaranteed.

I bet many in here would be at their lawyers office first thing in the morning if the plug the tire shop down the street put in failed and caused an accident.

Would be hard to drink 2 beers in the amount of time it took to plug it, well....

no cause either way if the shop or me fixed it, the tire would not blow out while driving, only thing that could happen is a slow leak from an improperly repaired plug/tire and that will only cause low air pressure or a flat not a catastrophic event. that's why all cars are equipped with TPMS sensors these days not to allow the tires to deflate to a dangerous level, plus youll want to check the PSI on the plug/repaired tire to make sure it doesn't leak any air for a few days afterwards.

Probably true for some. That is eventually why we will be required to wear helmets when we shop for groceries,.....because someone once slipped and sued. The truth is that driving (on brand new tires) is probably the most dangerous thing in life that you can do. Anyone really concerned about safety, probably shouldn't drive at all.

It's my understanding that the opposite is true.

Only.... cause low air pressure ? [IMG]
    Not a catastrophic event ? Wow.
So running on interstate at low pressure doesn't cause blowouts ?
    Got it.

if you are checking your tires PSI regularly and have TPMS sensors no, if you drive on flat tires and disreguard the TPMS warning light yes your chances greatly increase, its not someone elses respondsibilty to make sure your tires are properly inflated

That is a great video, thank you. I have bookmarked it :). What they are describing though is puncture resistance, not blowout resistance. The two are not the same. Blowouts are caused by excessive heat build up in the tire carcass, eventually causing delamination of the tire. Heat is generated by tire flexing, and under inflated tires flex more than over inflated tires.

yes a $5 plug kit from Kmart will properly fix a punctured tire, as opposed to hiring a $500 per hour lawyer when u don't take personal respondsibility for the PSI in your tires

I'll be using your video the next time the epic debate surfaces about whether E rated tires offer any advantage in offroad durability ;).
