Tire Pressure for Toyo Open Country 17" OEM tires

    OK, first things first: I'm done with the goofy nitrogen that the dealership installed in my truck. The dealer misled me that I could just stop in without an appointment to have the tires topped up; but when I got there I was told I needed an appointment. Grrrr. . .

    Topped up at 36 PSI with good old fashioned AIR after this occurred at dealership this morning. While it doesn't get very cold in western Washington, where I live, I'm leaving next week on a 2-week bird hunting trip in North Dakota. It'll be a cold drive across eastern WA, ID, Montana and North Dakota and I didn't want the cold weather I'll encounter to trip the TPMS. Some mornings it could be down in single digits. My truck will be well loaded, but not overloaded, for most of the time I'll be away.

    Is 36 PSI about right for this situation?

    Do you need to know, or care?
    My door jam says 29, but I run them 32psi because they tend to drop too low overnight and i don’t drive far.

    I did 33 F and 30 R. Noticed they warm up to 35 F and 33R and the MPG went up too

    The rule of thumb is for every 10° Fahrenheit change in air temperature, tire pressures will change about 2% (up with higher temperatures and down with lower). Toyota tells it's techs to use tire pressure compensation when adjusting tire pressures in the fall. Use the door pressure as the starting point.

    I think you're about right at 36 cold. I bet you are down to 32 if you do get to those single digit temps you talked about. I run 34 to 35 cold all the time. The 29 psi on the door must be for a better ride. Too low for cornering and fuel econ.
