I have my spare in my bed. Would this cause issues with the sensor signal reaching the truck? I just got new tires put on at discount tire and the light hasn't gone off since, which is also the first time the spare has been in the bed.

Edit... It'll blink when I first start the truck then stay solid.

Take it back and have them reset it and when they can't you'll need to get new tpms sensors which they damaged changing the tires.

They replaces the sensors... Maybe they just skipped the reset?

My 07 has one on my spare. Figured that out after I had to use it after an accident. Took it to the dealer to access the damage and they reset the light

    2007 he does.
They removed it in '09 or '10
If your '07 doesn't have the right stem, then someone either strapped it to the inside on the rim, strapped it into a different tire, or disabled your system.

OP, if they changed your sensors, they need to be registered into the ECU. It's not automatic. Discount should have the tools to do it, takes about 10 minutes.

The TPMS sensor radio signal goes a good distance. Moving the spare from the rear winch to the bed doesn't affect it.

In fact, if you took off the spare and left it in a corner of your garage, the signal would still get picked up when you start up the truck. If you then drive away, the TPMS light would illuminate after about 20 minutes. I see this scenario every day with sensor-less winter tires mounted (and sensor-equipped all-season tires stored in the garage).

Does the OEM steel wheel TPMS sensor have a metal- or rubber valve stem?

I recently swapped my rims and tires. Before transferring the TPMS sensors, TPMS light was on. When I loaded on bed my orig rims w TPMS - light went off.

Perhaps, you need to make sure your programmed TPMS were not damaged or the setting of the air pressure is not the same. If so, just reset so it reads the new tire pressure.

Each sensor must be registered into the ECU.
The ECU has storage locations for 10 sensors, but only 5 (4 on later models) may be active at any one time. Techstream, or the TPMS specific programmers, are required.

The pressure is stored in the ECU, not the sensor. Changing sensors does not alter the stored pressure, though I suspect that programming for new sensors will reset the pressure.

The button under the dash ONLY resets the pressure at which the TPMS will trigger. It does not reset and allow new sensors to be read.

    Three modes on the light:
On, then off after engine start = Normal
Flash once, then remain on after engine start = TPMS detects low tire
Flash continuously for "about a minute" then on solid = Problem in system, most likely unregistered sensor.

The system will fire if the pressure drops below the set point, OR if any individual tire drops to 10psi below any other tire in the system.

I am unclear re: source of your problem. You just replaced tires? Then sensors are still on your rims. New tires will probably mean, programmed tire pressure does not match with your pressure now, Either, find out your preset tire pressure or simply set a new tire pressure using under dash.

What you describe is a total replacement of TPMS with new ones. Then you are right, it will need that kind of reprogramming.

OP indicated that the sensors were replaced.
Could be appropriate depending on the year.... these things run lithium "button" batteries, which typically have a 5-7 year life. I can see the sensors dying in '08 and older trucks.

Thanks, in that case, if Discount Tires replaced them (I hoped OP purchased from them), then they should be able to rectify, or refund. They're pretty good at customer satisfaction.

There's a lot of variables coming up in trickles in this issue, a bit difficult to diagnose. Good luck OP!

My '08 tire pressure light is on. I checked the manual and it said check all tire pressures including the spare so I assume there is 5 sensors. I have to drop the spare to check it so light is on. It is on all winter with steelies on so no problem. Drove all my life without air pressure sensors so no big deal.

My work truck, the light came on. Tire guys put 85 psi into the new tires. Do ours light up at too much pressure?

I just had new TPS installed from Costco, they had to manually enter the new TPS codes with an electronic "scanner"gizmo that they plugged in underneath the dash on the drivers side.
