Its snowed here in Colorado last night. Tire was fine last night.
I drove around and watch the info screen go from saying 29 psi to 30 to 31 psi and back down to 29.

Really weird. I don't see any punctures. Maybe the guage went haywire? I have and the truck for 2.5 years. First time this happened.

I'm not making this a typical "ERR MRRR GERD WTF is wrong with my truck" thread, I just thought it was odd.

On a good side I'm going to test out my portable compressor that I bought a while back but never used it.

The alerts are triggered by a certain % decrease from when it was initially "set" so that particular tire must have dropped 10-20%(for some reason i think its 20%) from initial reading

The TPMS sets a threshold pressure based on the individual tire pressures the last time that the TPMS Reset was held. Somewhat stupidly, each tire has its own threshold. So, you can see tires with the same pressure, but one or more might have crossed the threshold with an alert showing.

In general, you roughly lose 1psi for every 10F dip in ambient temps.

So, set all your cold inflation pressures evenly, then hold the TPMS Reset. That will at least get everything set evenly.

You do know gasses expand when warm resulting in higher pressure right? So if its cold and it snows, the air in your tire will contract and give you a lower pressure reading. Once you start driving, the air in your tire will warm up a bit and you will get a higher reading.

Summer air at winter temperatures = lower pressure. Mine went off last week, just a good reminder for an air check.

Just an off the wall thought......

Did you check your the tire's pressure with a pressure gauge??? Not the thing in the dashboard.

Adjust your tires to the pressure you prefer, 29-30 psi is common. Then Press and Hold the TPMS reset button. This will set the pressure threshold for your tires.

This time of year, tire pressures will fall with the falling temperatures. May need to put some winter air in the tires. Don't worry, the winter air will blend with the summer air.

When winter passes, the tire pressures will rise with the rising temperatures. May need to let some of the winter air out of the tires.

No. The TPMS can only store four Sensor IDs. They can be programmed either with TechStream or Carista.

Yes. You need to have clone sensors in the 2nd set of tires.

The 2nd ones are cloned to the original sensors.

First you need to purchase cloneable sensors. Then the original sensor codes need to be "taught" to the clone sensor. Install. Done.

RockAuto is one source for cloneable sensors. There are others.

Happened to me too. Just got a new set from Costco and the sensor lit up the next day. Brought it back and they did a walk around and plugged in after. the light went out 5mins later.

Yes this is what most people typically do. Just ask any tire shop to relearn the winter tires when you put them on. Or see if you can get your hands on a sensor tool. We get them free with a box of sensors so they can't be that expensive I figure. While you can't have 2 sets simultaneously shown, you can make it work so long as it's all programmed correctly

Unfortunately, I'm only familiar with the autel tools. Those are for pretty much every manufacturer. Also Unfortunately, the tacomas do not have an automatic relearn procedure, so you will need a tool. I would call a local tire shop though. At our shop, we don't charge for a sensor relearn.
