Tire pressure

    IMG_20151227_075937793.jpg IMG_20151227_075031409.jpg Just got my '16 Sport yesterday. With the tech pkg, I noticed my tire pressures were all 35-36 psi when manual says cold psi @ 29. Any others notice this with their truck? Reduced pressure to 30 psi this morning.

    Most dealers don't employ their top techs to do the pre delivery inspection. PDI's. Usually just cheap air pressure gauges that they use. I always check my pressure after any service. Love the tire by tire readout in my Tacoma now.

    3" lift, goodyear wrangler duratracs 285/70r17, k&n filter, bakflip vp tonneau and tint.
    Was it much colder in the am?

    The expands and contracts with temperature. As you drive and tires heat up you can see the psi increase.

    Even with the cold weather here they do still increase 2-3 psi after driving a while. Again love the readout. Good Point gsxxr :thumbsup:

    That's where mine is after driving. I start at 32psi cold.

    Im not sure why so many people seem to only care about getting the best MPG and running overinflated pressures. Yeah great mileage saves some coin, but you're compromising the contact patch, performance, ride, and longevity to get a little bump in economy. Not worth it IMO. Run the pressures on the door, or chalk test the tires if you want the best pressure.

    So far, just a Hard Hat tonneau cover. Looking for mud guards and nerf boards.
    My dealer filled the tires with nitrogen. There is only one place in 25 miles to get nitrogen when needed. Guess where? Yep. The dealership. I'll use plain air, which is mostly nitrogen anyway.

    both pics were taken this morning within a few minutes of each other. Temp in high 40's. No driving since last night. Even the psi stickers in the door say cold psi @ 29. It seems strange to me.

    Also verify with an accurate tire pressure gauge. I've tested several different gauges and my dash reads about 4psi lower than those.

    The advantage of nitrogen isn't really the nitrogen part, but the fact that there's no water vapor in it.
    [GEEKMODE=ON]
    The gas in any closed volume will increase in pressure as the temperature rises. At normal temps, most gases, nitrogen and oxygen included, closely follow the ideal gas law, PV=nRT. That means a 50° temperature change will result in about a 10% change in pressure. Water vapor though doesn't follow the ideal gas law closely at all, and changes pressure much more in proportion to the the temp change, with the effect being strongly non-linear and more marked at higher temps.
    However, in the real world, at the kinds of temperatures you'll typically see in street use, the overall effect is still small and not worth worrying about.

    My truck doesn't get shit for mileage and has non-stock tires. But 35f/32r seemed to help a little

    Stock tires or OEM sized tires with similar load rating, run the placard.
    Realize also, that a 1.1 correction is mandated on P tires used in light truck applications.

    Also if you change tire size and/or go from P to LT, correction factors apply.
