im not a vehicle savvy soul. All I know is my 09 Tacoma gets me to my hunting places. It’s time for new tires. Im currently running 265-75-16s. I’m considering new wheels also and wonder what would be the plus and minus of going to a 17” wheel and would I need to lift it? There seems to be plenty of room, but like I say I’m functionally illiterate in these matters. As Bill O’Riley says “what say you?”

I'd suggest not going to a 17" wheel. If you go offroad being able to air down your tires will help with traction. A 16" rim will give you a little more footprint when aired down.

A 265/75-16 is the largest tire you can put in the wheel well at stock height with no rubbing issues.

I recommend sticking with a 16" wheel since you'll have more sidewall when airing down.

16" wheels also have cheaper tires.

Now for tires, there are plenty out there as well as a million reviews, but always start with:
    1. Budget
    2. Where do you spend your time, i.e., 50/50 hwy/offroad, 70/30 highway/offroad, etc,
    3. Type of terrain? Mud, sand, snow, etc.
These 3 things will steer you towards a tire. A lot of members here choose:
    • BFG KO2's
    • Cooper Discovery AT3's
    • Hankook Dynapro ATM
    • Yokohama Geolander AT G015
    • Falken Wildpeak AT3w
I currently have the Hankook Dynapro ATM. Excellent tire, just a bit too soft of a sidewall so I worry about sidewall punctures a bit too much when aired down. The BFG KO2's are too pricey for me, but an excellent tire also. The Cooper Discovery AT3 and Falken Wildpeak AT3w don't last that long from what I read. My next tire will be the Yokohama Geolander AT G015 since it seems like an great fit for my style of driving.

OP you might want to change the title as HELP means some type of emergency. Not a tire question. @jhodge83 @4x4Runner
