Moving to Salt Lake area and was wanting to know what everyone recommends for tire choices. Have looked into Mickey Thompson baja boss and nitto. Wanted to get some other opinions as well. Let me know your thoughts.

Better in the snow then any ''trucky'' tire you will ever find.

Packed snow and ice on paved roads or deep snow for off-roading fun? Completely different types of tire depending on the answer.

Well let me rephrase what I really mean is a more all around tire to include snow wheeling.

So all terrain over mud terrain? I've got a good friend in Missoula Montana he has BFG km3s on his ranger and said they do pretty good. Basically what I am wondering is how well a mud terrain can do in snow.

You need tires with good siping for snow, mud tires tend to suck VERY badly on icy and snowy roads.

    Snow sticks to snow.
You need tires that hold snow.
Mud tires are designed to clear out. Not good in snow country.
I'm not sure where you're coming from?
Depending on the winter, we measure snow out here in feet, not inches. You might be able to get some snow wheeling in during the fall?
My friends head to the desert for their off road fix during the winter.
For most of the winter they ski, snowboard or snow machine.
    Good Journey!

2nd Toyo ATs. Coming from BFG ATs I was amazed with the performance on snow and ice. I’ve never off-roaded with the Toyo’s.

I’d go Toyo AT or Falken Wildpeak in the softer SL compound, the LT Wildpeaks have worse rubber for snow, better for hard surface.

Or Duratracs if you want an AT that’s proven in the snow but closer to a MT. Seems to fit your inquiry well.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Mud terrains are absolutely horrific in winter conditions (with one exception in which they are alright but still not great: fresh deep snow)

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
I only got to use my Cooper Rugged Treks a couple of times in the snow (I run studded snows during the winter) and they worked very well. They're 3 peak rated and have lots of sipes cut into them.

^^^^This^^^^ Excellent dedicated snow tires and they are outstanding on ice too. You can't beat these tires unless you're considering equivalent Swedish alternatives like Gislavid NordFrost or Nokian Hakkapeliita.

All are "Gold Standard" especially on all four corners: even on 2wd or rwd cars.

A dedicated snow tire is best for ice/snow on pavement. But there are a lot of good options for All Terrain tires that will do pretty well in snow and be a better all around tire IMO. As said, an aggressive mud tire will do pretty well in deep soft snow, especially off road, but are probably the worst choice for normal snow/ice on pavement.

If you intend to spend any time off road in deep snow a set of AT tires with chains on them work great. If you've never seen what a set of chains just on the rear wheels will do you'll be surprised. It's not just for snow. It's for the mud after the snow melts.

Goodyear Duratrac RT's get good reviews in snow. I have Toyo Open Country AT3's.

I run blizzaks in the winter to never worry about getting to the mountains to ski or anything else. If you aren't going to run a dedicated snow tire setup my wildpeak at3s still seemed to do well last year when I didn't swap them out early enough. 3 peak ATs do well but snow tires will always be a bit better.

I take my MTs OFF in winter...theyre absolute hot garbage in snow! I am switching to Toyo ATIII's soon for an all year tire. I live in WAY northern Michigan and get feet of snow and my friends swear by the Toyos for snow and trails
