I have Dura Tracs on my wife's 07 T4R, nearing 50,000 miles and still a summers worth of driving left on them. I rotate them every 10,000 (every other oil change). They do remakably well for all the different kinds of weather we have up here, i feel they are the safest all around tire for the truck that she drives. My 07 DCLB has Wildpeak AT3Ws,(LT rating only cause I Got them for a great deal) i rotate those sam as the others and those tires are very impressive for the money, might try them on the 4 runner when that time comes. We'll see.....My 08 Burb 2500 has Good Year Wrangler SR/As ( on it when i bought it)and I feel that they SUCK big time and can't wait till they wear out so I can replace them with Wildpeaks. Well, if you want performance choose Michelin, if you want decorative rubber on your sidewall choose something else.

I'll share my experience in case the OP cares. I've run Cooper AT3's for the last 5 years and felt like they met my expectations in every way EXCEPT I've lost traction multiple times on wet pavement. Nothing crazy, but it surprised me that they did that, even when nearly new. I've put maybe 50k miles on them, and they're still at about 35% tread or so. Wear has been great. Overall, I'd rate them at a 9/10 with the only ding for wet pavement traction.

I'm about to switch over to Falken Wildpeak AT's and give those a try in the next month or so. We'll see how those compare. I'd have no problem going with the Coopers again, but kinda like the way the Wildpeaks looks a little more.

I went with 265/75/r16 Hankook Dynapro atm. They will fit on a stock Tacoma and look pretty damn nice. I do a lot of light off-road, driving on the beach and driving to Blue Ridge Parkway for hiking. They’re awesome in the snow too

I went from Cooper AT/3's to Falken Wildpeak AT/3's. Only a couple of hundred miles on the Falkens so not really much to compare at this point. I could not get my Coopers to balance but I think that's due to cupping from less than ideal alignment numbers. I ran them about 35k miles with a lift and stock UCAs. I was able to get decent alignment numbers but I think good camber and toe were sacrificed a bit to get good caster/drive-ability numbers. Now that I'm running SPC UCA's I have my alignment where I want and will keep an eye on the Falkens for any abnormal wear.

I liked the Coopers - good highway mannners, not a lot of noise (until I cupped them and they oscillated like a MF'er......). Decent slick traction but as others have noted, did experience some rear wheel spin in wet conditions. Nothing I would consider horrible. Don't offroad much but any dirt/mud driving I did do, they performed fine. I lost about 1MPG daily driving upping the tire size to 265/70/17

+1 on Coopers or Falkens (so far)

Mountain Snow Flake A/T's are not quite as nice as dedicated snow tires. I recommend nice M/T's for the summer and Snow tires for the winter. KM3 comes in a 255/85/16 now.

Everyone loves Wildpeak AT/3’s but don’t be sucked in by the hype. They like them for the price and you get what you pay for. The tread depth is half of its main competitors. In other words, wildpeaks will be slicks in half the time as others so it is not a good price at all. My wheeling partner has them which is how I discovered this.

I just bought 35” Mickey Thompson ATZ P3’s for mine. I am currently on 35” duratrac’s and they were great for me except for snow. As a daily driver on the highway a lot I did not want a mud terrain (don’t really need mud terrains in Colorado anywaze) but wanted something to withstand the sharp rocks in the rocky trail (you need serious sidewalk protection). Hoping to get them mounted tomorrow.

Pretty sure the LT wildpeaks have just as much tread as any of the other popular AT tires, no?

I just got back from Colorado Springs. While out there I payed attention to what tires the trucks/Jeeps were running. There were no clear standouts to brand. I will say most were 3 peak snow rated brands though.
Wildpeaks might be a great tire but I don’t have time to sort through 4 or 5 sets of tires to get 5 to balance out.
I’m using KO2’s currently but my next set will be something not E rated and lighter.

The SL’s have a lot less tread than the E rated tire. Don’t quote me as I’m to lazy to check but I want to say the SL is 13 and the E Rated is 18. Each tire also uses differing compounds so the wear will be different also.

Out of curiosity, I looked up a few in standard load range.

Wildpeak AT: 14/32 <---- What I'm trying next
    BFG KO2: 15/32
Cooper AT3: 14/32 <---- My current tire with ~50k miles on them
    Cooper ATP: 14/32
    Goodyear Duratrac: 16/32

OP, unless your tires are worn, I think your stock tires would be fine for your intentions. Your definition of "exploring" is likely different than most here. But if it's a little more extreme and off a beaten path, tire brand recommendations here would not make any difference if your truck is not equipped or built to handle it. Don't go exploring alone.

These tire threads are like oil threads. Lots of baseless opinions. It’s mostly - this is what I use and since I use it , it’s the best and it’s what you should use too. There is some good information here but you sure have to wade through a lot of bull shit to find it. I doubt the OP is any more enlightened now than before he started the thread.
