My point is, if you're crossing to front, cross to the rear. Full send.

#1 is designed to prevent harshness. #2 has harshness to front and only standard benefit to rear.

I have rear wheel drive so this says I should use picture 1 on the left which is what I always used to do back in the day but I do picture 3 on the right because I was told you can't cross rotate anymore - how do I tell which way is correct for me ? Thanks for any replies, details and or links.
I found this "The C-Metric tire has a directional tread design, while the LT-metric uses a non-directional tread pattern, Michelin - so I guess I can cross rotate - correct ?

I would still do every 5,000, and do hybrid cross rotation. If your tires wear uneven, 10,000 miles will do a lot more damage. If you rotate at 5,000, and cross rotate so they turn the other direction, then you "erase" that damage by getting back to a smooth surface.
Say for example your right front wheel wears the most uneven (it typically does because of the cross slope of the road and that tire fights to keep the truck in line... long story...) . If you rotate every 5,000 and cross rotate, then it takes 20k for the first tire to get back to that location, and then again at 40k, but each wheel only 5,000 at that location..

Typing on my phone here while walking, so I will stop there, but that's the idea.

I salute you ejl923 for starting a thread with a simple question and hoping for good advise but giving some of us a good laugh. Once in a while the children in us comes out to play.

Seriously, the mileage varies and tire shops like to get repeat business. There is enough B.S. in a tire shop to enrich the entire farm for several years. Just keep watch on your tires and measure the tread as part of normal maintenance.

As for Costco, I bought new tires and they put them on the back. Buyer's instructions were to put them on the front. My regular mechanic, whom I trust, showed me the factory maintenance manual that directed the new tires be placed on the front. Costco put the tires on the rear so your front tires would take the hit of any road hazards and not the new tires on the front that would cost them. Also watch the technicians as they torque the wheels. When they run them up with the impact wrench, they should need to tighten them with a properly set torque wrench, which should take one or two rotations of the nut. If the torque wrench clicks on the first stroke, the nuts could be over torqued by the impact wrench. I can check that off of the "been there done that" list.

Again, thank for the lunacy, I needed some relief after four days in a Texas ice storm.

I do actually kinda understand what you were thinking.. first rotation at 5k gets the worn tires switched and then waiting until 10k gets the wear "farther out ahead" of your rotation schedule. I'm following you but it really is overkill. You could try doing it both ways on 2 sets of tires and I'll bet you wouldn't be able to tell a difference in wear after 50k miles.

That being said I rarely rotate my tires. Lazy, don't really care, whatever.. I switch them out at about 50% tread life anyway because I do a lot of snow driving

I let Costco rotate mine for free every 7500. And they let me in the bay to look at my brakes while they balance the tires. But I have to wear my Michelin man outfit.

I did special rotations on my SCCA car. Soft rubber put on for events, removed after events. :D

I do the rotation as image 1 suggests every oil change (8-10k). Getting plenty of life out of the tires.

Whatever route you decide, just make sure you check the work afterwards. You don’t wanna end up with sand in those lug nuts and risk your truck blowing up.

I only rotate them if I have to pull 2 of them off.
Usually buying new tires before they are worn out.
Currently only have 65K on the truck and I am already on the 3rd set of rims and 4th set of tires.

I spent enough on five 33" BFG MK3s, so I do a 5 way rotation every 5k miles at the same time I do my oil change and ICON UCA Delta joint lube.

My parents had a black Mk IV with burgundy red leather. Killer car. At least until you tried to go anywhere with it. Literally had to park that thing at the very end of the store parking lot, because if there was another car within a one block radius, those giant-ass doors would bang into it.
