tire rubbing!!!

    Very upsetting.. put a 5100 adjustable front lift and set at 2.5". Off road parts place said the 285 70 17 tires would fit no problem.. Now I have rubbing on the frame of truck when front wheels are turned and I backup. WTF. Anyone have any ideas on how to over come this short of going to a smaller tire? I have new UCA's on there too.

    I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
    New wheels with less back spacing or some small wheel spacers but then your going to rub at the fender. Like I've told everyone your going to rub with 285's they can't be installed on these trucks without any modifications.

    Your rubbing is really not that bad you can live with it or buy new wheels and start cutting.

    Cab mount chop? Is that the frame bar right behind wheel well?

    So interesting fact... Looking at different tires now on tire rack since they have such nice detailed specs. The 285,65,17 yokahama seems to have more thread width than the 285 70 17 michelin. I wonder by reducing the diameter and height if this would resolve my issue or would I need to step down to 265 70 17. The two seem very close in overall specs and design based on the tire size tool.

    Next alignment you get done have the tech set the caster above 3* maybe close to 3.5* or so. I had that problem and set my caster to 3.9*, now I don't have that problem anymore. How high you can go will depend if you have a stock front bumper or a custom one. Caster does not affect tire wear whatsoever.

    Stock upper control arms won't let you get that high though. Not sure what you got.

    Not to mention that will just get you around town, there will always be a little rubbing out on the trails

    zip ties and scotch tape (duct tape is too expensive)
    How about with some eibachs? still rub ?

    I put some UCA's on there as well. I found the truck drives a lot better with non OEM UCA's.

    If you have aftermarket uni-ball upper control arm you will have no problem adjusting caster up around 3.5* or more. I've heard it's actually the aftermarket UCA that creates the problem. They pull the tire back a little more then the stock ball joint UCA making the tire closer to the cab mount. Get a wheel alignment and have the tech put caster 3.5* or more. ( read up on tire alignment; toe, chamber, and caster) and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about. Some high end sports cars actually have a caster above 5*, it gives them alot more stability at high speeds. I did it, now my truck feels a lot more solid on road and that's even without my sway bar attached. In the long run you will want to eventually do the cab mount chop as it will give you even more space.

    I think you may have hit the nail on the head! I never had issues with my stock uca's but as soon as I added my aftermarket ones I have had rubbing issues on both trucks. Nice catch on that!
