If you go to larger tires what do you do about speedometer error?

    Install a speedometer calibrator.

A little quick math lol. To my knowledge, there isn’t a fix for it yet. I had a scanner for my Jeep that would adjust the speedo for the gears and tires, but I haven’t found one for the tacoma yet. However, 265/75/16s are just slightly bigger than my stock 16s and it made the speedo dead on.

BMWs can be changed with a BMW tech tool. Don't know much about Toyotas.

Mine is off 8% with 35's. I just keep in mind that i'm going that much faster than what the speedo says. It's not a big deal. I definitely wouldn't spend $184 just to make the speedo right

Never mind calibrating your speedo, what about changing (screwing up) ALL your gearing. Out friends at Toyota have learnt quite a lot about precise gear ratios, and I tend to trust them. Original diameter tires can be quite effective.... but I’m no mudder!

Toyota completely botched the third gens from the engine to the transmission to the gearing. Not as refined as the 2nd gen imo

how big you plan on going? Factory calibration is roughly +/- 5% according to a speed dyno operator I visited after getting a speeding ticket. A +1 tire size increase may actually improve your accuracy.

Does the odometer show less miles or more miles with bigger tires? Less?

going from a stock 245 to a 265 increases the MPH by about 1-2 MPH, if your speedometer is registering 70, it is actually 72, on tire calculator website it shows this information

The design goals of the average Tacoma buyer probably aren't quite the same as someone who wants to offroad. Besides, you can regear the truck too.

I'm not sure but there is a radar read out going into the subdivision I live in. People have been complaining about speeders. The speed limit is 35mph. The new Toyota speedometer reads a perfect match at that speed.

It really hit my tripmeter. I can't even get to 250 miles on a tank of gas.

So your ODO will show less miles than it actually has, got it. Sounds legit.
