No, it's not.. It's off by a percentage not a fixed MPH number. The faster you go, the more "off" it will be.

Going from 265/70/16's to 285/75/16's is approximately 7.2%.

A plus is that you get a few more miles out your warranty if you don’t recalibrate...

You’re not going fast enough To see a difference. Go 65+ and depending on the size, you’ll see a speed difference.

This is just an assumption on my part, but Toyota sells the Tacoma with various wheel sizes, and I'm assuming they don't individually calibrate those trim levels. If that's the case, they're probably calibrated to find some middle ground that isn't too "off" for any of the stock sizes.

Toyota couldn't even be bothered to customize/align the overlay with the backup camera for the Taco. So my guess is that you're probably already starting from an inaccurate reading even before you change the wheels. I could be full of crap, though.

UltraGauge must be off? Or Speedo? If nothing else changes the math doesn't support 3 mph constant difference.

at 20mph you should be off by ~1.5mph
at 80mph you should be off by ~6mph

I believe using the revs/mile numbers for varying tires provides a more accurate % for mileage, fuel efficiency, etc.

For example, my stock TRD Off-road 265/70R16 Goodyears were 682 revs/mile.
My new tires, Cooper ST Maxx 255/85R16's, are 632 revs/mile.

    682/632 = ~1.079

Therefore, in order to calculate true MPG, etc, I multiple the displayed value by 1.079 -- which is a ~7.9% difference.

(The revs/mile specs can usually be found on the tire manufacturer or retailer websites).

This site has it all, including mph speedo error at various speeds. Someone already posted it, but here it is again.

Yes your right. I don’t really care about miles shown though I’m keeping it forever but it does show less miles than it actually has

All Tacoma’s stock will come with 30 inch tires, so going with any thing greater than that will throw off the speedometer. The larger you go, the more apparent the change

Calculators like that one provide a rough estimate, but they're not as accurate as using the actual revs/mile measurements for each specific tire.

tiresize.com even provides the following caveat for their calculator:
"Individual tire specs may vary from the calculations. However, you can choose from the populated list of tires to view the manufacturer specs for each tire."

My speedo was dead on with the factory Goodyear's. It's still pretty damn accurate with the Hypertech (slowly getting inaccurate due to tire wear).
