I have a 12 access cab SR5. Currently there are 245/75/16r tires on. Can I go to 265/75/16r without having to do anything?

yes. its been discussed here many times. assuming you have a pre-runner or 4x4. i have a picture of what they look like at my profile if your interested and it is otherwise bone stock. i have wheeled my truck and fully flexed it without issue since they were installed

Wouldn't the swap to 265/70/16 be a more natural substitute?

    Yes
The truck comes with 265/70/R16 and you can make it slightly beefier with the 265/75/R16
Anything larger requires remodeling to prevent rubbing.

Hey brother, did you paint your stock wheels? I've been thinking about doing that until I can spring for new wheels. What method did you use? Any advice on what not to do?

mine are steel and yes i did them. rustoleum flat black (i would recomend a satin or gloss) just a good rub-down with sandpaper and wipe with laquer thinner. the plastic center-caps i did the same thing. its really easy just dont get lazy and try and leave them on the truck or something. spray em inboard the spokes too and might as well spray any part of the hub or drum that would be exposed if you lose a center cap

Yes! Go with 265/75r16! Works great and it looks very tough. I ran it for a while and loved it.
