New to the site. I have a 2019 Trd sport(2 wheel drive)with a 4” spindle lift. I have 17” TRD pro rims. I’m looking at 285/70/17 nitto ridge grapplers. Do I need spacers? I really don’t want to cut anything. Can someone give me some advice?? Thanks.

how wide are the wheels/rims. Suggested width for a 285 is anywhere from 8.5-10 I think. I am running 285/75/17s on a 17x9 wheel with zero offset and I have a little under a half inch between the wheel and the closest point on gusseted spindles. To get to that point I have +2 width control arms. I did the alpine design body mount, and I had to grind and fiberglass the wheel well to get it to look pretty/ not rub. Stock as long as you stay in the 70, you might just need a 1 inch wheel spacer depending on the offset of the wheel, and width.

I’m pretty sure there a 7 or 7.5. Do U think a 1.5 spacer would make it work?

I don't believe you can safely mount a 285 to a 7.5 rim, but that just may be my personal opinion.

wheel width and offset are critical to clear 33's. It's different from one truck to another.

so would a 17x8.5(4.75 bs, 0 offset) or 17x9(4.6 bs, -12 offset) be better? for clearing the cab mount?

I do have a mid travel kit. Instead of +3.5 i did 2. And those wheels are my 285/75/17s and that is the warning they say on them. I have 17x9s with a zero offset and i am about 1/4 inch from the wheel hitting the spindle. In retrospect i would have done a -10 to -18 offset to clear the spindle a bit more. So if you don't have anything. I would go with 17x9 in a -12. I personally am more worried about getting as tight to the spindle as you can safely get.

my only other question is what is your back spacing, because if you don't have much that is probably why you are so close even with a 0 offset

I have an all pro offroad kit, including their spindle gussets and i am using king shocks. In retrospect i might have done swayaways threaded 2.5s and gotten coils and 3 inch id rings on my own and possibly saved a bit of money.

what are the odds that it would fit easier with a total chaos gusset since they seem to be a bit lower profile?

it just has a mild bend that might make the slightest difference since where talking about a .15 in difference with backspacing

Didn't know that. I am not particularly worried about the wheel, as it is metal it is not going to move. But i am worried about the tires rubbing on the spindle when I air down for general offroading. However I doubt airing down will increase overall track width by 2 inchs, pushing the tire the 1 inch closer to the spindle to rub. I picked up some 1/4 spacers I am going to see if work. I am still working on fitment myself. I got alpine designs front cab mounts, which are well out of the way. My next problem to tackle is rubbing on the fender well behind the wheel. I believe i have to trim back the stock fenders a bit, and cut or bend the pinch weld right there and figure out some sort of new fender liner. Still saying ideal fitment for tacomas is 17x9/17 -10 ish. I grabbed my wheels for 170 bucks a piece so i am not really complaining. Theres some black rhinos in a pretty good fitment that are 180 something a piece on bb wheels right now, I might have gone with in retrospect.
