    Hey Guys!

So right now my truck is still completely stock. I have been doing some research and decided to go with the bilstien 5100 3" coil overs. I talked with one of the guys at the shop about putting on some mud terrains. I told him I wanted the Toyo Open Country M/T in 32's but he's pushing for the 33's for whatever reason.

My question here is whether or not throwing 33's on my 2.7l would just make it totally under powered?

    Any input on this? Thanks!

I have the same truck as you and I wouldn't dream of tossing bigger tires on it, in fact I'm looking at new tires because the Dunlops SUCK and I'm going with the same 245/75/16 for fuel and cost, this truck will never be an off road beast. 33's are 8.4% bigger than what you have now, that is pretty significant. These trucks are pretty slow as is, add that to a 3" lift and you are going to have a very slow truck that gets terrible mileage. If you can put up with an even slower truck than you have now go for it. Or if you are willing to regear to 4.56's you could get close to your original ratio, it will still be heavier and have more wind resistance but will at least move half way okay. I hope I'm wrong but this is my gut feeling, best of luck to you.

Read the specs on the tires. Most "33" inch tires are usually closer to 32". Either way you're gonna rub and have to trim

I have a DCSB Prerunner 2.7 auto with a 220 lb +/- shell with P265/75/16 Cooper ATPs on OEM alloys and 1.75" front/2" rear lift and my tires are about 41 lbs each. The difference in MPG from no lift, no shell and 245 Dunlops is (for me) 4-5 MPG down from my average before list.

I'm getting 18.5-20 each tank now, was getting 23-24 previously.

Acceleration with bigger tires is noticeably slower but I don't have a hard time merging. Passing on a 2 lane road is fine but if run short of space, it's slower than I'd like. 2.7 isn't fast to begin with, but it drives just fine with bigger rubber. I do miss the 245 MPG though.

Stay in P metric tires and watch the weight and you'll be just fine.

Ok maybe I mispoke, but I always thought that just because it's a 285 doesn't mean it's a true 33" tire, just depends on the brand. Like for example 285 duratracs are 32.8" if I recall

Very valid point! I agree that the dunlops are terrible. Thanks for your input

    285 isn't a true 33" tire, so of course.

I believe you're correct. I talked to him about 32's but he said the closest he could get to that is a 32.8. Tires involve too much thinking for me!

Thank you for your input! This is very helpful. How do you like your Cooper ATP's?

I love them. I had Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10s in the same size and they were the absolute worst tires I've ever owned. I had them for 6 months with monthly trips into the tire shop and 2 replacement tires before I had 5k on my initial set and they were equally plagued with issues.

Avoid them in P metric at all costs.

Good to know.. Thats the last thing anyone wants after spending that kind of money. I was also quoted on the Hankook MTs. The price sound better than Toyo but I haven't heard a lot of good things about them so far.

FWIW. I got less than 22k out of the Dunlops and they measured at 3/32.

I heard good things of Toyo, but IIRC they are pretty damn heavy.

Yeah. That's about double the weight of 245 Dunlops and almost 20 lbs more than my ATPs.

Likely a turtle with those on but it'll look good.

Im on 31s and i really really nedd to regear. The 2.7 is a dog in factory trim, add extra diameter and weight and it is a dying dog.

I've got 265/75-16 tires in my 4 banger. Any bigger than that you are probably gonna rub even with a 3" lift from what I've read. They're about 55 pounds a tire and it's not too bad. They measure at 31.7".

As for drivability it seems fine to me.

I can live with the occasional down-shift (when necessary)...only issue I've experienced from stock gears and taller tires.

    20150625_120035_zpsmvjbmwpc_5f7f24553e34b4b41e64986e34c030e855d061fe.jpg

3" lift, no trimming...re-gear is on the list :)
