Here's what I've found. It seems like the the speedo is a bit off with the stock 215/70/15 tires. It reads a little fast. An indicated 60mph is actually about 57mph according to my GPS. This difference would be consistant with other Toyotas I've owned. For example, my wife's Sienna has a stock tires size of 215/65/16. The speedo reads fast against the TomTom. The optional size is a 225/60/17...which I also have (we have 2 sets of wheels for her van). The speedo is dead on with the 225/60/17.

Anyway...according to the famous Miata tire calculator a 235/75/15 would read 4.5mph slow vs. the stock 215/70. Assuming the GPS is correct and the speedo is 3mph fast on the stock tires, that would mean that my speedo would really only be off by about 1.5mph...right?

Not too bad if that's really the case.

i was thinking about going 225/70, but if rub isn't an issue, 235/70 rounds just about right

Hey you are correct about the speedo deal. Most of our trucks read fast from the factory. Up to 5% according to Toyota. I think your gps is accurate and a slightly bigger tire would not affect you to much!
