Hi all... new member here. Bought a '98 Tacoma that had some beefy (but bald) tires on it. Looked great and I loved the height, figured they were stock, but when I got a new set of M/S's (235/75/R15), they are quite a bit smaller. Tire shop says that's what the rating says. Sure, they work. They may even handle better, but I miss the look and feel of that lift although not thrilled with the width. I wanted a tall tire, but I didn't really want the width. Not sure how else to describe it.

So I'm wondering (as a person that knows little about speed ratings or the size number conventions etc) what can I put on these 15" (T 15 X J77-8) rims that will put the badass back into my pickup?

I'm not necessarily looking for brands, but sizes to go back to the shop with as I have a 30-day trial period with these.

    Thanks in advance.

    drove my '98 Taco for 11 yrs.......3.4L.......5 speed......TRD.....

the only tires I ever used were BFG AT KO's.......235-75x15.......

sure could have gone bigger.......that bad girl would go where you pointed it....

along with 22 mpg.....study & understand what taller tires will do to your

rear gear ratio & power & mpg......click linky......

    the 3.4 is no powerhouse.....keep your 235's......

It definitely drives better with this size. Makes sense about power / mileage etc. Thanks.

I did take it up a pretty steep and gnarly trail yesterday and yes, it goes where you point it. Way better than my old Chev. Guess I'll probably stick with these.

Glad to have found this group. I know I'll be writing in again. Thanks

What was the size of the removed tire?

What is the width of the wheel on the vehicle?

    Is this a 5 lug or a 6 lug? If 6, 4wd or 2wd?

A common size is 255/85/16... a true 33” tire, but pretty skinny.

For your 15’s, you could get a 33/10.5/15 that would be skinny but tall.
