Hi everyone, new to the forum. I have a 2012 Tacoma SR5 Access Cab 2WD 4 speed automatic in stock condition. I have hit 78,000 miles on the original Dunlop AT20 GrandTrek tires and it is time to replace them. I mainly drive around town or on the highway, nothing off-road. I just retired so I doubt I will be driving over 8,000 miles a year. I don't haul much unless it is picking up a few things at Home Depot. The stock tires are 215/70R15. My neighbor suggested that I would be better served if I replaced the tires with one size wider such as a 225.

What would be the benefit of moving to a slightly wider tire? I know that going to a 225 width in a series 70 tire would also be a little taller and would affect the speedometer slightly. Would I see any change in acceleration (I have the 4 cylinder) or miles per gallon? Would it cause any problems with anti-lock brakes or traction control? So would I be better off sticking to the OEM size 215 or going to a wider 225???

tirerack.com has reviews so you can really educate yourself before purchasing your new set. You can put in your size and see lots of brands/ models and see reviews. Looks to me like you would be best served with a set of Michelin MS2's or the new Defenders. They are the best road tire ever.
