...but when I was at 3"...I ran (and still do until they're gone) 265/75 16 with no rub...285's will rub. I understand you have 17's...hopefully someone with 17's will chime in. Welcome to TW.

    Dude I have 4" in back 3" front 265/75/16 -265/70/17's will fit.
Just like stock 265/70/17's will fit. Call Toytec they will tell you to get a 4" off set wheel and with a 3" lift 285/75/16-285/70/17's will work than read the threads/post's on TW.
TW will tell you still have to do trimming and a cab mount chop.
Then you will get every Tacoma is different, and they are.
    Not that much.
3" leveling kit, I dont think so. Toytec has a spacer kit for $60 that will level your Tacoma.
If you want a 3" lift u have a lot to look at.
Back to the tires i'm rolling 255/85/16'S thin and tall true 33's no trimming.
I like them, I do plan on getting a set of new wheels & 285/75/16's just for fun. I will see how they roll and use both sets.
I do know this my BFG 265/75/16's had vibe's on my TRD Baha wheels. The 255/85/16's the vibe's gone. I spent a lot of time with CV drop spacers ect. New thin tires wow vibe's gone. Just my 2:rolleyes:
