Depends on how many drinks you buy them first.

Assuming you only drive straight, I don't think it's a problem. If you plan on using the steering wheel, you might run into issues.

Some complain of problems, some don't. I'd figure rubbing.

So the 275 is a safer option I assume.

If you are a physics guy then you understand spatial relationships. If you understand spatial relationships then take a look at your stock tire when it's cut all the way left or right. You will then understand what will happen when your tire grows a inch or so. There you go!

Mine rubbed even with a three inch lift. I also had to do a CMC. It's not just tire size, but rim offset/backspace. And all 285/70/17 aren't the same size. Use the search and you'll find out all you want.

    enough to go over stuff
265/70/17 or 265/75/16 are the largest tire with no rubbing.

    negative still too wide.

265 70 17, 255 85 16 (when nothing is changed and stock wheels are used), 265 75 16 are the biggest you can fit guaranteed without rubbing issues.

Some will say you can run 285 or 275 with no cutting or rub, its all a matter of what lift, wheel, alignment you have.
for me having 3.6 caster, 2.5" lift and 4.5" back spacing 0 offset I had to beat the pinch weld flat and cut the body mount to fit a 285 70 17.

And that was to fit it through full lock side to side and full articulation.

You'll still likely need to cut...
