Would you buy a Toyota from a rental car agency or prefer the certified Toyota ?

PS...it’s the same thing, just look at the carfax reports. They slap on the Certified sticker and charge 3k to 4K more than Hertz.

Some of the Toyota certified vehicle carfax reports I looked at did not show regular oil changes. The extended warranty is nice though.

Bottom line, you have to complete your own due diligence.

I have some Hankook MT 33’s in the garage with maybe 10K miles I might be persuaded into selling.

OP looks like this discussion has run its course. Frankly, with a dealer like that, you are lucky they didn't drop your truck off the lift when you went back. We've seen many horror stories over a simple dealer oil change.

You got the truck you want, consider it lesson learned, tires are disposable, and go get the tires you want somewhere else. Frankly, you should should look at replacing the brake fluid and coolant if they are not near spotless, too. Nobody is going to care to care more about your truck than you.

CPO is a roll of the dice for the dealer. With weighted dice.

Clean unit, reasonable miles for the year model, some desirable features/color. Change the oil, replace a tire or two (in some cases) and put the sticker on it.

Folks flock to them because it is CPO and has a nugget of warranty.

Like any insurance (which is all warranty is) the dealer will lose on one periodically. Trans fails, AC fails, etc. And they eat it, IF the repair actually costs them more than the premium price delta the buyer paid. (remember, they already took advantage of someone on the trade in too.) And all the CPO vehicles that went past the warranty time? Pure profit.

Like any insurance carrier, they are in it for the profit, not your benefit. Doesn't make them evil BTW, nor does it make CPO a bad deal, especially considering the mechanical skill level of the average buyer. Because what you do know is the vehicle is better than the ones they float off to auction. And they are willing to take a risk on it.

    @MasTacosMa

Listen to the above advice that's been repeated over and over again; to chalk this up as a lesson learned.

Now one thing that I haven't seen mentioned here at all, that is if you want some leverage, is to request the repair order of when the vehicle had its smog and safety inspection done.

You could use this information and see if it correlates with what your state requires IE CA requires used tires to have 50% life or more for safety reasons.

If your dealership sold you the vehicle with tires at the minimum required depth, then you're really SOL.

You had every opportunity to exercise due diligence prior to sale and you chose to do it after the sale...you need only be upset with yourself.

You bought it like that, and obviously tire tread is not something they can hide. You are being ridiculous and whinny if you think they should give you free tires on a used truck.

Just go get yourself a nice new set of meats at Discount tire, your truck will look better and you'll have peace of mind with the warranties.

No, crap is buying a vehicle, not paying attention to the condition of it and then complaining about it not being ones own fault. Get real.

I'm sure most people don't know a tire should be changed every seven years also tires have an expiration date on them.

If it met their minimum then it’s a done deal. Lesson learned. Most of us have been there.

When we bought our CPO RAV4 from Camelback Toyota I asked about a second set of keys. The salesman said “sure we’ll look for it”. A week passed and didn’t hear from him. Sent him an email. His reply was “sorry couldn’t find one”.
Went through the CPO checklist and one of the requirements was “two keys”. Emailed him back with the info and a replacement was paid for at our “inconvenient” time. As you can see I had a bad experience. No communication after we had signed the dotted lines.
Needless to say they lost a customer. Sad because I could have bought my 19 Tacoma from them.

I'm not being a dick. It's ridiculous he is complaining and them, and also anyone who thinks he deserves any kind of discount towards tires.
