Who forced you to read this thread? Did the OP ask for help being a dick to him?

Do you reply to questions on Amazon like this?

    " I don't know and I didn't buy one, but you're and idiot for asking a question!"

If you didn't notice, the OP asked if it was reasonable or not. Many of us feel it was not. If he didn't want to know, he shouldn't have asked the question. My guess is he just wanted affirmation in the decision he'd already made. I see no problem at all with people answering the question he asked. If he only wanted people to agree with him, he shouldn't have asked the question.

Now, from outside looking in, this is what I see. Someone looks at, test drives, and buys a used truck. Owns it and drives it for 2 weeks. Then has to be told by a shop that he'll need tires soon. I'm not sure where in this story the OP is the victim. They truck was used and will most likely have other maintenance issues come up sooner than a new truck would. That's just part of buying a used vehicles.

From the outside looking out, I see an OP who made a mistake and has the strength to tell everyone who cares to read about it.

Plenty of members don’t turn wrenches regularly, and out of all those who read this thread, I will guess a few have learned something valuable.

Let’s show some respect to the new guy, because everyone makes mistakes- that’s how we learn.

    Thanks @MasTacosMa

yes, we all make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. The OP was asking if it was reasonable to blame that mistake on the dealership. Many feel it was not. Hopefully the OP learned something and maybe others who might read did as well.

Big picture, it’s easy to “Monday morning quarterback”, just like it’s easy to criticize someone from the security of moms basement, but it’s better to cut the new guys some slack, since they are the ones who keep this place interesting.

    In my opinion of course.

And by the way, the dealership the OP bought his truck from appear to be unscrupulous, so OP has a valid point, even though he most likely won’t get any satisfaction from them, also my opinion.

im not criticizing anyone and would tell anyone to their face that it wasn’t the dealerships fault he/she didn’t notice the tires. It was used. Wear is expected. In the grand scheme of things, what does 1/32 matter? It was going to need new tires soon anyway, like most used vehicles would. As you say, it’s a learning experience, not a blaming one.

My original point was someone put it out there that they made a mistake and because they did others here reading the thread might benefit from the knowledge.

It’s part of what makes this place so great.

So again, let’s cut the members taking the time to do it some slack.

Not take the easy road and criticize.

    Cheers

OK. So he asked a yes or no question, and you must feel answering no is criticizing. I guess I can see how you think that. I don’t. Sometimes no is correct. In this case it’s just an opinion, but he did ask a question. No need to criticize those who would answer differently than you would. Maybe criticize the harshness of some, but not the fact people answered the question.

I feel people should learn more and blame less.

Well, for the record I originally posted that OP should just buy himself new tires and brakes and enjoy his new truck, and avoid going back to that dealership if at all possible.

    Not that that is important.

“Don’t be a dick to new members”, well that is a different matter altogether...

It's kinda weird that Toyota CPO spec is 5/32 , that's about where I get rid of my tires .

I would assume because it’s a used vehicle, not new, and that is safe to drive. Most states require 2/32 to be legal, so it’s above legal and still safe. Doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be looking to replace soon, but I don’t think the expectation on buying used is that it would have new or nearly new tires. Is certainly a plus if it did though. But yeah, 5/32 and I’m figuring out when the new ones are going on.

Clearly some folks think that anything I could have and didn't notice is my fault. I'm not going to let that bother me.

    Update for anyone curious:

I went back to the dealer, told them I was unhappy and didn't believe the tires were at the CPO defined spec. Spoke to 2 managers and they ended up giving me a set of wheels and tires the had as take-offs from a TRD which is an upgrade for my SR. The set of 4 had one damaged tire though so I purchased 1 tire at full price to replace it as well as 4 sensors because the sensors from my steel rims won't work.

I had both the dealer and my independent mechanic measure all 4 to assure they all meassured new and I wasn't going to be doing any harm running tires at various wear stages.

1 tire, sensors, lug nuts, and install and I was out a little over $500 which I'm happy with considering I still have my original wheels and tires and have the upgrades installed.

or you could start a thread about buying a used truck with worn out tires then complaining about it after the sale... brilliant strategy.

Sounds somewhat fair. You probably could have found a similar deal with takeoffs on Craigslist.
