    Hey guys,

I have some crappy uneven tire wear on my front tires on the outer edge. I know that it could be alignment, LBJ's or lack of rotation. I am going to get new tires and I dont want them to wear like that again so I want to figure out what might be causing it.

My front two tires are older then my rear tires based on wear. But I was thinking its probably needing an alignment at I just replaced the rack and pinion and other steering components so the whole thing was taken apart. The wear isnt extreme, but the tread on the outside is more worn down, but not bald.

The service history said the original owner had the LBJ's replaced on warranty at 32K, I have 140K now.

I am guessing an alignment and new tires is all thats needed?

    Thanks

    Tom

My truck ate up my old tires too. I since aligned the front and rotate more frequently with my new tires. So far so good.

I think you should be fine with the alignment and new tires, check both front wheel bearings for play and noises. I like to rotate mine every oil change and run 36 to 38 PSI.

How do you know what the issue is if you haven't had an alignment?

Like stated above...check for play and noises. Get an alignment when you install the new tires. Review the before and after alignment printout to see what your numbers were. Hopefully lots of red went to green.

    This.

Also, even with proper alignment you still need to rotate your tires so all 4 wear evenly!

Worn out front shocks can also cause odd tire wear.

Yep, lack of rear toe correction requires this. Also the large amount of front toe to make up for the lack of stability in a truck doesnt help either.
