Currently running Toyo Open Country 265/70/16 which have a listed weight of 40 lbs. I like the size and performance of this tire. I'm about to replace them and was looking at the BFG KO2 but they're 10 lbs heaver. Looking for recommendations on a new tire, but concerned the KO2 weight will impact performance negatively since my truck is not a 6 cylinder. THoughts?

Was even looking at the 265/75/16 but they are even heavier and by all accounts will rub at full lock.

Everything is a trade-off. Those Toyos are a C load range tire, correct? The BFGs are EXCELLENT tires, extremely durable, etc... That durability comes at a cost of weight.

That said, I've run nothing but E load range BFGs, and I've NEVER gotten a flat, on or off road. They have great grip for an A/T. I can't say for sure how much an extra 10# per tire will do, but I doubt it will be hardly noticeable.

I run the 265/75r16s and yeah, they rubbed the frame behind the steering at full lock at stock height and w/ 1" lift. Unless you change the geometry of the suspension, they will *always* rub, maybe just not in the parking lot, which is fine for more people.

    Tasteful modifications :)
I’m running Kuhmo Venture at51’s and they’re super good in general tires. I went from Yokohama Geolanders and these are definitely a step up. Not much if any noise on highway and the tread is really good on them for snow and mud

OK good to know. I think you basically have the same truck as me, you're running the 265/75/16 with no rubbing?

Thx for this feedback. Yes I believe the Toyo are C rated. The only BFG KO2 that is C rated are smaller tires, my parents have your exact tries on their lifted 2004 v6 extra cab and they look fantastic. It's funny, researching the forums I see about half of people not liking the E rated on their 4 cylinder but the other half loving them.

This was my concern. The Toyo is only 40 lbs and has been fine for years. Can you recommend 265/70/16? The Kuhmo's mentioned in the previous post are 38 lbs , so a bit lighter than my current tire. Thx for your feedback. NEver bought new tires for this truck before.

Lighter is better, but I haven't seen anyone sit down and do the math. The short explanation is that rotating mass counts"more" than mass that is just stationary when it comes to engine power.

Additional weight also affects brake parts, shocks and suspension components to varying degrees - but they will all wear faster, which you definitely won't notice driving around, but you might notice when parts wear out prematurely.

So yeah, I dunno. Anything you don't like about the toyos?

It just depends on your intended use. If you want to go off roading, I’d recommend the E’s, but if you want to try and maximize what little mpgs you’ll get out of a Taco, and don’t mind taking a hit in durability, then stick with C’s.

The thing with the 4cyls is yes, they have less power so any extra weight you’re more likely to notice, however thousands of people run them, it’s not like the 2.7 can’t handle it.

With an added 10#/wheel, you will feel it both in MPGs and in acceleration performance.

Makes since, the toyos have always been on the truck, no complains, maybe I just get them again? Are there better options at around #40?

Not a daily driver, mainly to haul stuff occasionally or just cruising around. Would like to do some light off roading in the future (mid-west). Couldn't care about MPG but with current tires the acceleration seems quick and makes it fun to drive. would be sad if that took a major hit.

what's it cost to add a TRD supercharger lol, not sure what the hp difference is but that is definitely helping to handle those tires, quick search shows those tires are well over #50

The 2.7s do pretty well with turbos.

I bought some used Cooper Discoverys 265/75/16 for my 2.7, (load E) I had no idea how heavy they were and I noticed it immediately. Kinda like huge flywheels on a stamping press. Takes awhile to get them rolling but the price was right...
